Umm, lol...FF games have always been blamed for their unoriginal turn by turn gameplay. FF games are just about new, complicated game mechanics like materias that makes the game look innovative. The fights are really dull if you think about it, now an innovative but not worked enough game would be legend of dragoon for the Ps1. My favorite Rpg is tales of destiny 2 for the Ps1. It combines real time combat with free movements and the storyline is quite good. It's the best tale studio could offer, and all the most recents ''tales of...'' games are nothing compared to it.

Final Fantasy games and Golden Sun. So for those are what I think are the best.

Final Fantasy 7 (duh)
Chrono Trigger
Oblivion
Fallout 3
Diablo 2
Final Fantasy 3
ahh the list goes on and on... and as a side note the only thing good about maple story was it was free other than that it got boring quick...

Okay..
No offense, but some of you are fairly short sighted (at least from what I can see).
It might just be because you have to pick one, which I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you are merely short sighted

Being as I haven't played any Final Fantasy I really don't know what the gameplay is like, and thus, I will not include it in the list.
Fable - A much more customizable and freestyle game (for an RPG), which also taught me early in my life what choices effect people (all of them, and no I don't kill hobbes), stupid, yes, helpful? 100% yes.
Mass Effect - A more unique RPG due to its turn to the more "cinematic" feel of it (it is essentially a movie), also allowing great customization when it comes to strategy (due to team members and class), aswell as several different situations that may occur if you do or don't do something earlier (such as buying ship upgrades, not getting enough paragon or renegade points, or by losing a member).
Diablo - From my extremely limited knowledge this is a dungeon one, where more strategy could come into play as you need to find, locate and defend different things throughout the game, and (as all blizzard games imo) a rich lore to it.

I've barely heard of Fallout 3, or Chrono Trigger (I've heard of Oblivion).

Anyway those are my 3, but it honestly depends on playstyle, mood and ofc how far you've gotten in the game and if you want to continue it :P

ahh.. Chrono Trigger was so awesome and ahead of its time.. or i think so.. a classic rpg with such a unique story line and battle system.. plus i think theres like 10 different endings depending on what point in the game you beat the main boss.. all around a great game.. i highly recommend it any rpg fan.. another good one that i forgot is Xenogears for the PS...
