The Republicans, especially President Bush, have been strong suporters of public schools teaching abstinance instead of realy sexual education with information regarding contraceptions. I believe that Palin's teenage daughter's pregnacy is a prime example of abstinance education not working. BTW Palin is a stuanch suppoprter of
during her 2006 gubernatorial race. In an Eagle Forum Alaska questionnaire, Palin gave this response to the following question:
Will you support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education instead of for explicit sex-education programs, school-based clinics, and the distribution of contraceptives in schools?
Palin: Yes, the explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support.
It seems obvious to me that Palin would have taught her children abstinance at home, as well as her kids learning it at shcool. Being surrounded by such strong abstinance support didn't stop her kid from shagging the High School Hockey Star.

Of course abstinance doesn't work, it's pretty ineffective. In fact, if you believe in abstinence and have a boy/girlfriend then you've already failed! You can't stop feelings in the spur o' the moment. One thing just leads to another. Anyone who tells you otherwise doesn't have experience with anything related with sex.

That's true but if she had been taught the importance of safe sex, if sex was had, maybe then they would have used contreceptive or been more careful, and she wouldn't be a teenage, unwed soon to be motehr.

I'm don't think I understand what you are trying to say here. Are you trying to say that if Palin belived in contreceptives and a real sexual education class rather then the abstinence-only program that she would be more to blame for daughters pregnancy then she is now, believing in abstinance only? If that is your argument it makes no sense.

Telling kids how to have sex doesn't help either. The force of the schools teaching abstinence is no were near its enemy which lies in society. Eg, media and such.
Kids are not going to listen to some shit about abstinence in school. School for one is portrayed as "uncool", and growing up their lives thinking sex as being "cool" doesn't help.
Try teaching those things a bit at an earlier age.
Btw, I think students are encourages to have sex because of school. They say "Don't have sex, but if you do, don't forget to use condoms! And make sure its latex".
Kids will have sex even if they grow up being tought that sex should be saved till marraige. Schools do not encourage sex, they encourage safe sex if you do decide to have sex. If schools worked more on teaching abstinance over safe sex then I beleive that there would be just as many kids having sex but a lot more pregnancys/STDs.
Anyways, I beleive that Palin's standing on sex are somewhat wrong. I suport teachings of safe sex and abstinance. Palin's daughter just made a mistake despite her parrent's warnings just like thousands of kids around the world. There was nothing she could realy do but get a medieval chasity belt. Though thats probally a bit TMI.
I never understood this debate quite frankly. I believe in abstinence however, not everyone, does. Therefore your going to have kids who could care less about abstinence and therefore make a stupid choice...i think the answer is pretty obvious. TEACH BOTH! how hard is it to teach the "explicit" stuff and then say at the end, the only way your going to keep from being pregnant with 100% success is to practice abstinence....blah blah blah whatever else you wanna say...seems pretty easy problem to fix if you ask me...
Also I am sure Palin's daughter was tought safe sex as well as abstinance. I beleive that she just did not use the protection correctly.
I'm pretty sure that she wasn't. Palin after all is actively anti-sex ed in any form other then abstinence only and was obviously very involved in her children's education (she get started in politics with PTA after all). It seems obvious to me anyway that she's very pro-abstinence only which is a real problem in my opinion as that stance has been shown to increase both teen pregnancy and STD rates with no real known benefit when compared to a more comprehensive sex ed course. Whether or not it was this specifically that lead to her own daughters pregnancy is something that we can't judge.
