Are lightining bugs dissapearing? read the article. I know that personally, I've noticed far fewer around then when I was a kid (I'm 24).
Do you agree that there are fewer around? What do you think is the cause, light pollution, development, global warming?
It's a tragedy if lightining bugs truly are going extinct. They were, not to sound corney, a magical part of my childhood. I'd hate to see them dissapear forever.
think it's funny that we care so much about this critter because we have such fond memories, but who cares about all the other thousands of endangered animals that we have nothing to do with? Every animal has an impact on the world. Every animal eats, and gets eaten (within reason) and has an effect on the food chain. Yes, it's sad that fireflies are dying out, as well as tigers, wolves, and every other animal that humans have trampled the lifestyles of.
I think there are a lot of people that care about all teh different animals that are going extinct. Fireflys just happen to be one of the latest examples of humankind's impact on the world around us. Also, Fireflys are a ruler to measure the impact of certain catalysts, such as global warming, destruction of animal habitat, etc.
