Why? . . . .good question. Except for the fact that why doesn't really have a meaning if there is no subject. It's a question yes, but it isn't asking anything. So when It comes to grammar. . .
Why is just a part of life. Human minds don't have the ability or power to grasp the fact that Why is an unanswerable question that is a good question to a certain extent. Humans are never content with not knowing, and that is the only reason why "Why?" is a huge question.
As to the arguement that the answer to "why" is "Why not", that is just an equally confusing answer. Why not? One could ask, "Why is Why Not the answer to Why" and then one could say, "Why Not"? It is just a never-ending cycle of confusing questions that although we'd like to know the asnwer too, it is epiclly impossible to know the answer to the universe.
Please, tell me what "why?" is asking of me. Its like asking "how?" with no reference.
Go to a random person and out of nowhere say
"Hello, how?"
Makes no sense at all. A question MUST be referring to something. 'Why?' alone is meaningless!
Surely there is something you are asking, but the question is poorly stated. I can't make any sense of it. You can only take guesses, and this is what everyone is doing. Its lolz.
And the person being asked probably immediately comes up with a referent. Perhaps you're missing the point of "why." It may be that you are too specific here. As other's have noted, this is the Ultimate Question because 1) it seems that nearly if not all people ask it at some point in time, about something they cannot fathom and 2) it is difficult to answer. Even if I gave you a context, what makes you think it would be easily answered? So let us give it one and see.
Add to "why" the complexity you think it needs, and we'll see what answers come up. Here's one: Why....are there natural disasters?
why? is an unanswerable question, as anything you can say in response can be hit with another Why?
Sorry for double posting, but this really nails it. Even with the context that Drace seems to think the question needs, another why can always be added. Context or reference or whatever doesn't prevent the endless cycle of "why?"
Why do we have these natural forces? And why do they cause disasters? Just seems like unnecessary trouble.
God put them there (Cannot answer as to why he did it) And why do they cause disasters? Well its science. Earthquakes happen because of the tension created by the moving plate tectonics. You can always get an answer of what exists in our reality.
