I recently went to bed, shut down my computer, got up in the morning, booted up, no sound device found. I have tried googleing the problem. I have tried udpateing drivers, the only thing that i am not willing to try at this point is reformat my drive. my device manager says i have a sound device, no errors, no conflicts. I have no sound control in my systray, I can't listen to music, and i don't hear the windows start up stuff. I have my head phones plugged in properly, everytime a sound would be made, my computer makes a beep. someone please help

I think you should ask a computer technician, someone skilled in repairing software and hardware problems that boggle other people.

Have you looked in "sounds and audio devices" in control panel? Just to check that your speakers are selected, etc.
Otherwise you could try system restoring the computer to before the problem arose.

this happened to me recently with speakers, idk if it will work with headphones...

it might've installed itself over and over

on vista it's:

controlpanel-sound-manage audio devices

i had the speakers installed like 14 times and tried each one with itunes...later disabling the ones that didn't work

i have no idea how it installed itself that many times
