Isn't space amazing all the planets and stars. What is it that they're saying know that they found the I of God.

But i thought pollution was breaking the atmosphere and creating Global warming.

-sigh- i don't believe in global warming i believe in climate change due to the poles switching

there is no explaination for why antarctica lost its ozone people just assume it was pollution even though there are no factories down there

pollution supposedly traps in heat bouncing it around more before letting it back out

@paintballer that was the stuff they used to put in aerosol cans and whatnot... They eventually switched to something that wasn't eating up the ozone layer :P

That's the greenhouse effect. And it's real, just look at Venus (I don't know what the scale of the pollution has to be before you reach that point, but the reason Venus is so hot is because of all the crap in it's atmosphere).

Or that the sun's going into a period where it's hotter (I know it sounds dumb, but I heard something like it somewhere...) And I hope the poles don't switch soon. No magnetic field = no shielding from nasty space things.

Yeah....the poles don't switch. It is definitely partially due to humanity's impact, because there are gases abnormally high in amount in the atmosphere (like carbon) that could not have come by from any other place but humanity. Also, it is not entirely us, because the Sun is going through a high-energy phase; the polar ice caps on Mars are melting too....

Yeah....the poles don't switch

Yes, they do. At least, the magnetic poles do.

Yes pole-shifts happen (technically Geomagnetic reversal). Without the magnetic field all sorts of deadly radiation will get in. But hey its happened many times before and if Homo erectus can survive it we can.

I never understand it when scientists say stuff like "the temperature has risen by 0.5 degees c look at all these animals that will go extinct". Yet about 10,000 years ago in Iceland the temp went up 10 degrees in less than a decade how many extinctions? errr... none. The Earth is geting hotter but I think our role is greatly exagerated by governments to get money from us.

This picture always amazes me. It shows you just how big space really is, each one of those is an entire galaxy.

P.S. Yeah, it takes a while to load :/

Hypothetically speaking what would happen if we took loads of gas canisters up to space and released the gas. Enough gas so that the vacuum was filled. I know technically impossible but hypothetically speaking. How would it affect orbits etc.

another fun fact pixie

neptune has not made one rotation around the sun since its discovery almost 200 years ago

How would it affect orbits? Planets would loose kinetic energy, orbits diameter would shrink and we would hit the Sun.
