Does anyone else agree with me that we limit the power of cops waaaaaaaay too much? They have all the ridiculous, time-wasting procedures they have to go through, they're not allowed to shoot to wound, and if there's a fight between a cop and a suspect, people tend to worry about the suspect much more than the people who work every day to keep us safe. I'm not saying that we should give them unlimited strength to do what they please, but it's truly to the point where vigilante's could do a better job than police, just because cops have their hands tied.
Spoken as someone who's never had to deal with the cops before. I've never had any major interactions with them, but I got pulled over because some dude couldn't meet his quota.
I was well within the speed limit and wasn't serving back and forth or anything, so I obviously wasn't driving while intoxicated. What was the cop's excuse? The light that lights up my license plate was too bright.
I ended up having to go to court over this, and the ticket got repealed, but seriously? They can do whatever they want; if he had decided he wanted a drug charge, he could have sniffed a little bit and said that my car smelled like pot, which gives him probable cause to put me under arrest and search my car.
I don't smoke or carry pot in my car, but I've heard of it happening to friends before. It's ridiculous.
