I tend to shy away from music with lyrics. Rap would be the worst in my opinion because it's ALL lyrics. Also, I don't really enjoy heavy metal and everything similar to it...hurts my ears.
Except nickelback perhaps, nickelbacksucks (name of a user).
Death metal/Gothic metal isnt really my thing, too distorted. But I do love most kinds of metal/rock.
Rap is ok, except for some parts where it sounds like speaking, or the super vulgar parts.
I said I respect every genre of music not every band from every genre of music.
And I think you have gothic metal mixed up some other kind of music. First off, it's not even close to death metal. Gothic metal is actually very melodic and usually has a lot of acoustic passages.
@bobitho: There are some jazz undertones in soul, but soul is really pretty unique as a culmination of multiple melodic genres. --------- I generally dislike rap and bubblegum pop. Most of them are obviously in it for the money, and their music (if you are able to call it that) suffers greatly from it.
That is harsh as you say some are awe-inspiring. I never used to like classical but Griegs piano concerto in A mino changed all that. Mozarts "moonlight sonata" is also brilliant. Then again their are some pieces that are a bit pompous oh well.
I still detest rap just so you know and to keep on topic
