Would it be possible to create a feature that will let you go back and edit your own posts? I have made many spelling or other errors ([url=http:/community/thread/3376833/crush-the-castle-custom-castles/page/170], look for PyromanX)and needed to create a new post to remedy them. Please with a cherry on top?

Anyone who likes the idea, say so!

*sigh* this has been suggested a countless amount of times. The most recent I have linked here. But that is just one of the many. Anyway, I have always seen it as a great idea, and I'm unaware as to why it hasn't been implemented. I suppose this is the reason

Yes, but then you could also modify what you said, and if someone starts responding to your old post and you change your old post, it may throw the entire conversation off.

Which was quoted from John on one of the first times it was suggested. Another reason could be someone could flame, and then edit the flame out of their post. And such. But yeah, I've always like the idea. :P

Most people just make minor edits to their posts (correcting typoes or whatever) or just make another note to avoid double posting (without actually changing anything). The idea of flaming and editing it out is attempting to deal with a problem that might not even happen, and makes it seem like people are just too thin-skinned to even give people the possiblity to say something bad about them without them knowing. It doesn't even seem like a valid reason at all.

I agree, for instance earlier I was trying to post a picture and couldn't figure out how to do the link, so instead of just fixing my post I had to put up multiple posts to figure out how to do it.

I ALSO think there should be a PREVIEW for posts. So you can look at it and make sure any codes you used for links and things like that worked. That could help cut down on the need for editing.

But when you edit a post it doesn't delete the old post. it would go something like this

Original post
----------------------------------------
Tis is an exampkle senatance

Edit:
I meant to say "this is an example sentence" sorry for the spelling errors
----------------------------------------

It would show your original post above the edit so people could not possibly flame and then delete what they previously said. Its basically just add a side note and keep from double posting.

I like the idea and it has been suggested before. I'm not in the loop with development, but this could possibly become a feature!

It would be good, and it would be bad. Spammers might.... nvm. I've explained it too much.

Solution? The mods would be able to see the new and the old post.
Problem solved?

Someone would most likely flag the post by then, and the original post would be in the ACP, Unedited.
...

I would really like to know why this suggestion is shot down so many times, other then because of how the idea has been duplicated so many times.

So before this is locked, could somebody please explain why this feature really hasn't been enabled?

I love this idea. Like if you make a mistake you can go back and edit it instead of having to re-post it. Like if you make a typo you don't have to post again and say *awesome if you had said aewsome previously. Also to delete your post if you take it back or just plain don't like it.

Idea is great and almost every community has it so why doesn't AG?

Now that people have mentioned, I am actually more in favor of a preview feature. You could catch errors in HTML this way.

Mods/admins/developer, please pass this along to someone who could implement it.

Thanks to everyone for their comments!

This would cause problems though. There would be no way at all for the mods to find out with the member flamed or trolled. We tried it out on my old site and it never really worked out.

Members can't post html on AG. Only BBcode.

If you'll look at other sites which has implemented an edit-post feature, it was never abused by users, so why would that feature be abused here?

So, I agree.

Well if you really want an edit post feature...perhaps not a feature that fully edits the post.

Merely, a quotation of the earlier post, and the new post stated underneath. Hence flaming/spamming will not be covered up and corrected; conversations will also not be thrown of course with missing chunks of text. Thus fears of any cases of hiding offensive posts will be allayed.

Well, why not go for it? A person might change his opinions or might want to add something additional, so he can just update his old post.
