I didn't think I'd ever encounter a game that would actually DESERVE a 0. Then again, I never thought I would run into a game that would make EVE online feel fun and enjoyable.
You mixed genres that shouldn't be mixed, and did so in a way garunteed to piss off people who are fans of the main genre. The car minigame was unintitive and unfun, due to INVISIBLE TRAPS alongside the visible ones, as well as lousy hit detection on ALL enemies in addition to the poorly implimented perspective in the car game.
The delay on the axe minigame was inexcusable, especially combined with the delay that was unavoidable if you were hit, especially considering you staggered multiple enemies, making it nearly impossible NOT to get hit. The shotgun minigame was even worse, if it could be possible, when it came to hit detection. By the time I had finally gotten through, I was cursing the game designers and programmers with every shot - that, oddly enough, made me get through the game.
In addition to these... avoidable 'features' of these minigames that should have never been placed in a point and click inventory game, there were many graphical and click detection errors throughout the game.
Perhaps the worst puzzle was the one with the cat. I personally like cats a lot, and the puzzle involving FRYING THE CAT SO AS TO BLOCK THE MIRROR - WHAT THE (expletive deleted) WERE YOU THINKING?
Which brings me to the plot of the story. ...fail. Total and complete fail. You may be trying to drum up support for Christianity, but the method of doing so only exacerbated the imagery of the Anti-Science Anti-Thinking Right Wing Christian Fundamentalists as paranoid whackjobs. If that was your goal, congrats, you succeeded, but somehow I doubt that is what you intended or that various Christians would find your rendition flattering.
You had a decent start, and I had hopes that this game would not be as bad as I was thinking it would be. Alas, plot, shoddy programming, sub-par graphics, and horrible design errors ruined said promise.
I'm with Divine Darkness on this one. The game play was a little... shaky at best, but I still liked it a lot. I gave it a 9.5/10.
The car thing took me a while and i admit, I did curse once at it. But honestly, after you try it about 10 times, you get it.
That's the same with pretty much ALL he minigames. Axe minigame, not that hard once you get used to it. Shotgun, a little bit harder, and a shotgun spread would have bee nice. The problem is that most people think they can't get hit or they'll die pretty much instantly.
The plot was very good, and informative. I would not have known that was in the book of revelations if I hadn't played it. The maniac was a very good addition to the game. The cat thing bent reality a lot and was kinda weird. The ending was between good and great. Although, I did have to use the walkthrough to actually beat a few parts.
All in all, it deserves a 9.5.
Although, I have nothing against people writing long reviews even if they hated the game.
Ok, I don't normally do this. Everyone IS entitled to their opinion, but this review was screaming biased that I had to register to this website just to say something.
I will admit games get frustrating. But that's what games do, game developers try to make things challenging and they hit or miss.
The mini-games were a miss. A definite miss. I cursed too. But it didn't make me so pissed to where I needed to rate this game a 0. I pretty much figured the rest of the game out on my own. It was just common sense. I only got stuck on the mirror part because I forgot to click on Jonathan's pocket to grab the pen and finish fixing the walkie-talkie. But enough of that, back to this rating.
Then we have the complaint about the cat. Seriously?! I love animals too with a passion. But to scream at a game because kitty got bar-be-que'd? really? Do you stop watching horror movies because a dog ran off in the woods and got killed by the psychopath? It even had humor to it. The animation made it appear more comical than cynical. AND, the cat was still blinking! It was alive. The mangy, lovable cat was still alive.
And the biggest note... The religion thing. I have heard SO many people complain about this portion of the game. Seriously?! One question for those who give this game a low rating based on this factor alone: Do you hate games solely because they have a satanic/demonic plot like Exmortis? Do you hate games solely because they have a Wiccan plot that involves witchcraft? What's the difference if it has a Christian plot? Get over it. This world is becoming so Anti-Christian that anything that involves Christianity turns them off. We're just basically treating it like we treated other religions before they became more widely accepted. Do I smell hypocrisy? Funny enough, I'm not even Christian! No where near and I'm defending this part about the game lol. That just goes to show how much or how little something can bother someone based on how open/closed minded they are.
And lastly, I just had to point this little part out. The graphics did not suck. I thought it was inventive. It gave it a comic-book feel to the animation. And the voice-acting was much better than I heard in many other cheap-budget, point & click games. And although I'm not a fan of this type of navigational system in a point/click game, it was far easier than others I've played (can we say, Abandoned?).
But alas, we all have our opinions... yours just seems to be a bit harsh.
And on a further note (yes, the religion again)... All religions have their wackjobs. Some people take things too seriously (oh, like you and this game) and they know no boundaries. You find them everywhere. And if a strongly closed-minded Christian was put in a situation like Seth was in this game, his psychosis doesn't seem non-credible to me. And so what if the Christians get pissed off? Everyone in this world tries to make arguments on what's politically correct to do in games/movies/media, etc... you never win.
And based on your reasoning for why you think the religion aspect is cause for low-rating, does that mean you think a game, for example Resident Evil 5, deserves a low rating because you think black people are gonna revolt because it had black zombies in it simply because it was based in Africa?
I just don't understand this review, expect for the fact that is was given by a closed-minded person who does not know how to think in the third-dimension.
