This is the general picture of society.
However, most people still have manners and do these things, it is a smaller group of people who are ruining it though. Maybe this is just because I live in Canada, that this happening.
I remember once I was in the U.S. around 30 miles away from the border. I was buying something from Walmart. I said "thank you" to the cashier, and she said, "Oh, you must be from Canada!" I asked why, and she told me rarely anyone told her thank you.
So I'm not sure if this is just my experience in Canada.
It still seems to be more or less of a habit here in Denmark. Usually if you thank the cashier or the bus driver and tell them to have a nice day, they will do the same. If you smile at someone, they will smile back, and saying please is something most of us has been taught to say. I hold the door for my friends or random strangers, if they are going the same way as I, and there are still people letting older people have their seat in the bus. Being a gentleman is often the easiest way to be here, since being angry and rude will make people ignore you and make your life a lot more annoying.
The society evolves, so some of the older values cease existing. We have of course to protect some values and morals, the most important ones. But also is very important not making having always manners a duty, that does more harm than good.
Every person knows how he should behave, but for many reasons we act as we don't.
As soon as I saw the topic title of "Morals and Values" I thought of "Do not exist"...Sad how that happens.
I notice it more so in the controlling countries (US, Europe...etc), but there are still quite a few people in Canada who are rude. That being said, most are Teenagers/Elders. Kind of funny ^_^
They're the "magic" words. But scientists have proven that there is no such thing as magic, so people have found no further reasons to use them.

It depends on the reason more than on the person's manners. If you're a boxer, what's the big deal? If you aren't a boxer, what's the big deal? Hitting people is why people hit other people; to hit them.
I've noticed this as well. I was raised to have manners so when I see people just walk into a building without paying any attention to the person in a wheel chair behind them, I just shake my head and hold the door for the peron in the wheel chair. I have a dog and I was walking with a friend and my dog one day when my dog was doing his buisness. Then when I bent down to pick it up with a bag my friend said "You know you don't gotta pick that up right?" I replied, "Yea, but someone could step in it and if I can prevent that then I will." He just gave me a confused look.

I thought "is not relevant in debate/government". I'm used to people always bringing morals into debates and laws xP
I think that the main reason people aren't has gentleman like is because everyone's in a bigger rush these days. We don't always think we have the time to hold doors open, let other people go first, etc. It's not that we're trying to be rude.

I see that partly true. I walk into school, and I get ran over by a herd of jerks (Mostly guys). Sometimes it's smart to slow down a little. What happens when these same people are dating? Are they just as rude? I would hope not.
