Warcraft is the obvious choice just because blizzard was meant to make RTS's. Think about it Warcraft 3 and Starcraft are both still wildly played all over the world. WoW was made just to steal money from fans.
My opinion (take it for what it's worth): Warcraft is technically better (gameplay) but WoW is more varied and you're much less likely to lose interest (higher "replay" value, although it's not really replay in MMORPG games). Which is "better" is fully subjective but I pick WoW because of the different possibilities but honestly (I can see the flaming now...) I'm not a big fan of either one personally. (although I'm not a fan of PC gaming in general, so that might be it.)
I playd Warcraft 3 at mikes house before. it was really fun. mike also plays world of warcraft. he plays it all the time, and he really likes, but I dont think its very cool.
it is so hard to make WoW work, you need hundreeds of patches and shit + you need to pay to play, Warcraft is better becaose it is simpler, but I don't really like them

i dont understand how hundreds of patches would make it hard there all installed in a few hours when you first install it in your PC or MAC and then future patches take no more than 30minutes to install and 15$ a month is not bad at all considering a xbox or ps3 game most people will beat the 60$ game within a month then want to go out and buy another 60$ xbox/ps3 game so its cheaper as well ;D
warcraft all the way. to be specific, warcraft III TFT. I played warcraft II and the tides of darkness expansion growing up and they were my favorite games. WoW was disappointing, even though i love mmo's. I'd honestly rather play warhammer online over WoW any day.
Warcraft 3 wins my favour, it's more engrossing and relies a lot on strategy (yes I know its an RTS). Anyways, I've never liked MMO's, so yeah...Warcraft is more preferable.
