Considering that the highest-rated game is Chrono Trigger on various websites, I'll say that it's that game. It's an excellent RPG that received a 9.7/10 on gamefaqs.com, something that is incredibly hard to achieve.
Halo 3. Amazing storyline, amazing music, great multiplayer that people still play. Probably the most famous modern day video game for people who don't play video games.
I don't think saying that Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past would make me weird. It's so massive for a SNES game, and it really revolutionized gaming. And it revolutionizes sooo well.
Really though, it's a very simple game, but it is executed beautifully.
It's a tie between Modern Warefare 2, and Maplestory. Maplestory is EXTREMELY addicting. I warn you not to play it, you'll be hooked on it like a drug, ahhahahaha.
hard to say but ive been into the Elder Scrolls for quite a qhile u should check it out
I also enhoy the Elder Scrolls a lot. I've played all 4 (alright, I didn't play Arena, it is so ridiculously slow), Daggerfall is fun, I love the controls and gameplay but they're pretty difficult to get the hang of. Oblivion was good but it just felt too realistic for my liking. Great modding community but the game itself is pretty bland. Morrowind is my favourite from the series.

Legend of Zelda games were mostly good. I only played Ocarina of Time on GC (enjoyed that a lot) and Phantom Hourglass on Nintendo DS which wasn't great but still pretty fun. Planning to get a N64 within the next few weeks and I'll try to get my hands on a copy of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.
Do you have a SNES?
Maplestory.
I hated Maplestory. I found it extremely boring and quit within three days. :-/
