It gets hard to keep medics behind stronger units like chronites because medics are faster and you have to like juggle the medics behind your chronites. Same with snipers. I think if you added like a 'follow' feature to drag and select some units, or double click for all then drag click or click one unit to have them follow. the downside though is with the follow, should they follow close, far, what? close has advantages for something like snipers and hovertanks and far has an advantage for like romans and snipers or medics and whatever so the medics arent hit by splash. but if you add a follow feature.. idk maybe use a hotkey, like Ctrl or something where you drag select one group or double click to select all then hold ctrl and click on one unit for drag for following the group, or double click to have them follow all (but follow the frontmost) would help.

While I agree it would be nice to have a follow feature, it would also eliminate some measure of the skill involved in the game and allow "noobs" to be more successful against good players, which I dont necessarily think is a good thing. One of the trickier things good players do is managing all the units, including the meds, so everything gets healed, and yet the meds dont die and the units stay in lines how they want. Its part of the game imo and I dont think it should be changed.

Agree. I think that the game shouldn't be made in any way to fit you so that you can play it freely, but take a mreasure of your skill to see who's the better player.

for a second, think of colony not as a game, but more of a real war which im pretty sure what its intended to be, do you think that a general is going to have the engineers (medics in colony's case) go to the front lines to repair tanks, but when they're all fixed, keep going unarmed just because they're faster? no, the general of this army would order them to move behind the front lines, stay behind the tanks and repair them. in a way, i see what you two are saying, but if you think of this more as a realistic game, there would be a following feature

Are games meant to be realistic?
IS Colony realistic?
Game is more a measure of fun and skill, reality sometimes just isn't amusing.

the game has a time line set for history, it is based off oh two civilizations warring with eachother. maybe instead of a following, a 'tab' on the bottom of the screen but over the bars where it says your resources. this would be a tab of all your units out, and if you clicked the tab it would select all, and you can do it the double click way. this would make it easier to control units that are being covered by bigger ones.

It would be cool if beside the resources, it listed how many you had of each unit and if you clicked it, it would auto select that group of units.

yeah thats what the following feature is what i wanted to like use it for. that way instead of having to doubleclick and go through the annoying holding all the units, trying to find the medics in the tanks, then moving them :P the tab features would really help and keep the skill. do you think you should be able to view enemy tabs at the same time? idk you could 'count' enemy units :P oh and do you think i should make a new thread for the tab feature instead?

The tab feature would definitely be nice. Even the way it is would be fine if it always worked, but sometimes when you double click it wont select all, which is very irritating :P. As far as your example about a general not sending his medics ahead of the tanks, thats exactly why you should micro manage them and tell them to stay behind the tanks :P. You are the general.

Why would you need to make a new thread?
And yes, having a count of enemy units would be nice, but it could be cheap considering you could break down any of the enemy's units. Maybe special forces could unlock it for you? Or something?

yeah thats what annoys me, the double click doesnt always work when your moving mass units due to lag. the tab would be a very good way to control the units without screwing up, to count out how many units, like 5 marines shoot down one scout in a burst, so if they have 3 scouts, with splash you can figure 5x 3 then x 2/3 for splash compensation to get 10 marines i realllly want the tab feature now. im going to get off AG until tomorrow now, keep discussing

the special forces unlocking it sounds like a good idea, or a scout (ehhh :P) idk lol i dont think it should show tabs on enemies though, that does sound a bit cheap, and if you cant see units because they are hiding among the big units, like a wall of romans hidden in a field of hovers, they could be a surprise attacker :P

Yeah I dont think you should be able to see enemy tabs, unless maybe you could have it as an ability from spec ops for like 80 infl or something to be able to see the enemy unit counts for 5 seconds or something. But yeah having the tabs for your own units would definitely be extremely nice :P.

Hopefully something like this is in an upcoming update in 3.0...
