I use to have a topic about my writing, but after my laptop broke and I lost all of my work (I had it backed up on a CD, but my dog saw to it that the CD was destroyed.) I stopped posting in it. But, I can't find it now, so I am forced to make a new one.

Today, I don't have writing, but instead, sketches I made. They were rather hastily made, but then again I suppose that's what sketches are. So, I know that some of the lines aren't perfectly straight, or that her eyes are messed up on some of the pics, but here they are.

These are all of a girl from an e-comic I like to read, and all of them are based off of pictures of her, so I had something to go off of. But still, I think they're decent =/

Well I can never figure out how those pro artists get such perfect lines either lol. Looks good do you have any original character drawings?

I use to draw some characters I made up when I was really young, but I just recently (This month) rediscovered my artistic side. These are the first things I've drawn in years.

Well what made you want to draw again? I do it to compete against people here but mostly I try to get better at it.

Well, I've always liked drawing, but I usually suck at it. I guess I can only draw something I'm looking at.

Once I started reading this comic, I just really liked the way that girl was drawn, and decided I wanted to try it. Once I finished my first picture of her (Which is actually the one in the middle), I was like "Oh hey, lets keep going". So I made another (The first picture) and finally, the last. (Third.)

I've actually been trying to draw a full body picture of her, but because of my pencil I can't get her eyes right. Makes her look all

Maybe you should try a pen

I was always taught that you should never directly ink a picture, cause if you mess up you have to start the WHOLE picture over. So what I do is, if I want to ink a picture, I trace over it in ink. Or trace over it in pencil, then in ink if I need to do that. I have copies of those first three, but none are in ink.

lol rules are just that rules, theres no rule to art just personal preferences. Also if you erase something its the same as starting over except it leaves smudges. Anyways I started to use a tablet and software to remove the need for paper and other materials, it also is convenient to post stuff on the internet. I know one way for you to get better looking likes, that would be a vector program such as Flash or Inkscape...they have auto smoothing features for lines anyways I know Inkscape is free but it doesn't support tablets I think...i have tried drawing stuff with a mouse in it its not too bad, you can probably trace over your sketches in it.

I don't think I'd enjoy something like that, I prefer to draw the old fashion way o.o

well you never know until you try, I still draw on paper but don't upload anything...I lack a scanner anyways the only difference is that I have to look at my monitor rather then the tablet...its a cheap tablet $80, not one of those $1000 ones that is really more like a touch screen monitor.

Anyways hope you find a good medium to get the results you want

I got another picture for you today, same girl. This time I drew her while looking off of a sketch made by the original artist, slight changes made on my part.

The first three are great! Just this last one is not so good.

But I agree with HecticHermit on the idea with graphics tablets it is almost the same as on paper! I used to draw on paper until I got my tablet. Now when I draw on paper I find the lack of the digital tools sometimes annoying like quick colour switching or 'Smudge' etc.

ArmorGames love a little link to the original artist, when you are giving credit, especially for traces/references.
JackJolly on dA.
Other than that, I would recommend that you make your lines a bit softer, but got over them a few times (like sketching, I guess), that way it might be easier to get the lines to be more straight, instead of trying to just do a straight line in one go.

Thanks, Cenere. Forgot to link him :3

And thanks for the advice. There's a couple pictures I didn't put up where I actually did go over it a few times, instead of just doing it in one go, and they look much, much better. But I just wanted to put these up here to see what people think.

You guys might recognize this one, if you look at Jack's sketches regularly. This is one of my favorites, again changes by me. Originally she was holding a DS, and going "what the-?", but I had a plan for this, and changed it to a piece of paper :O

You'll see where I'm going with that change in later days o.o

(Apologies for her hands, they look atrocious and I don't know why! I redid that picture MANY times and I couldn't make her hands look any better >.< Any advice on fingers? That seems to be the only problem.)

Sorry for the double post, by the way. I just uploaded this picture a few minutes ago, and forgot to post it in my last post.
