Javon Johnson's "On That Faithful Morn" is a pretty amazing example. I had the privilege of listening to him reciting this poem, and I think it illustrates the things that free verse ideally looks for. Rather than the rhythm or the rhyme giving a rhyme its power, it looks upon descriptive language, rhetorical technique, the concept of flow, and the selection of certain forms of diction for emphasis.
