I've been messing around with creating flash animations lately, but I'm running into a problem. I've noticed that some games on here really have some high quality graphics in a very small area.
When I try using flash, the art I create is always a very low resolution. With the width of the stage being only 400 pixels, how can I fit more high resolution images into those spaces?
I thought of shrinking a large image, but the quality just becomes horrible and pixelated.
So what's the trick? Do I need to change any setting or anything?
I would believe that the trick is vector graphics. Maybe...
Yea, testing it in Adobe Flash CS5, which uses vector graphics, the image does not lose quality as it is shrunk.
Vector graphics use mathematical modelling to draw lines, which is different to raster graphics, which simply colour pixels. When raster graphics are enlarged or shurnk, the colour pixels are either multiplied or divided in the way that it is resized.
Vector graphics instead use the same mathematical model to draw lines at larger or smaller sizes.
