OK, 3 weeks ago, my family and I bought 2 boy hamsters. We bought a cage for the hamsters together. Then a week after, both of them were fighting for water. Then a day later, they were fighting and screaming. Rolling around and fighting. I leaved them alone. Then after 10 minutes to check on them, I saw the first hamster chewing on the second hamster's head. Then, what I saw was a murder... The second hamster's head was eaten by the first hamster. You can see the spine up. It was horrible. Now, here's my question. Why??? Why does hamsters eat the other hamster's head? There was lots of food in the place where the hamsters eat. Why?

You have a cannibal hamster. That's the simple answer.

Maybe the hamster wanted something else to eat besides hamster food. Like meat. Your hamster could've be carnivorous.

Male hamsters are competitive and often fight, but I didn't know it could get that bad. Its not about the food though, its most likely about territory. Thats pretty messed up by the way.

Get in there and chow down. Nothing shows discipline like showing how it feels tenfold.

Thought this was the funniest part of the whole OP. WHY??

Hmm..should have bought two water tanks. Unless they are also possessive, that would have solved the problem.

But man...I know this is in bad taste, but...should have caught that on something! It's like...hamster mortal kombat. Like, literally!

Was it a small cage??? cuz if it was a small one they would get aggressive or possibly competive for the territory, and its overall just a bad idea to have 2 male hamsters in a cage at all...

Maybe they didn't like teh Nomz you gave them and killing 2 birds with one stone, kill your rival and eat some good Nomz????

I had a two hamsters once. They are very solitary and will fight to the death for territory. I had separate them before they murder each other. But I heard Dwarf Hamster get along quite well...

I suggest getting a pet locoace. They're adorably nooby and evil, just keep your fingers away from him and you'll love him

When I was a kid we had gerbils, and one of them killed another and started chewing on his head. He didn't eat the whole head though. The sickest part is that the gerbil who did it was the father of the killed one. We had to move his brothers to another cage after that, 'cus daddy gerbil went totally psycho. They had probably lived together for like a year before it happened too.

Well, my second hamster's gone and my first one already is alone. Probably it's territory, but probably he's a carnivore.

HOLY CRAP THAT'S INSANE!...Though I have seen my female hamster eat its own baby...i still cant figure out why...i think it has something to do with us touching it? which we never did...i mean we still fed her and everything so she had no reason to!

Anyways, maybe they were like part Chinese Fighting Fish! ... put two of them together and BAM! one dead FishHamster flushed down the toilet
