The second they let a Non-Japanese (An American actually) design a pokemon, he comes up with this:

LMFAO.

And the sad thing is it's almost true. Pokemon are always going to get lamer, even if the original artists do them.

Remember when you saw this and you're like "WTF is it? Awesome!" and then when you saw this you're like "oh, a penguin. Cute"

I disagree, my brother drew and named a baby pikachu named whatever the baby ones are called. This was long before it showed up in America, and maybe before it was released anywhere.

They've vastly improved competitive gameplay in the last few generations

I still pick up the main series games when they come out

Actually, I found the new generation to be less ugly and despicable than the fourth, which only had a limited amount of decent looking pokemon.
So it's true that American designed that horror!?
I'm speechless...

GameFreak has basically added tons of people to the pokémon designing. At first there were 3 I think, and now there are around 40. That's why the differ so much between gens.

I also agree the fourth and fifth gens were horrible when it comes to Pokémon design, with a few exceptions (Empoleon ftw). However, the gameplay is now heavenly and is keeping me digging the games. They're just awesome x3.

They maybe should stop after this gen though. Five is more than enough in my opinion.

Fifth generation is probably going to be better than the fourth. My only backup for now is that the pokemon types are going to be more various, as in more pokemon in the elements that were scarce in the last gen.

But come on. Which is worse. That? Or this?

Come on! If you find all the other dumb-looking pokemon, that one isn't so bad.

I noticed that the first generation of pokemon were very unique and had a very &quotokemon" like style to them. When you saw a first generation pokemon you knew it was a pokemon. The latter generations of pokemon look more generic and seem to resemble Yugioh, digimon, etc. onsters. They are just more generic looking.

Yes, they've come up with quite a few strange type combination and I'm pretty eager to try out innovative mixups like grass/steel or bug/electric!
As for bad looking pokemons, nothing beats ludicolo...No wait there's worse...Bibarel!

What do you mean? Perhaps it's the quality of the gradients they are using. Perhaps it is the new artists. They all look &quotokemon like" to me.

@ Freakenstein

You used a picture of the same pokemon, which still looks like Charmander no matter who draws it - That's why it's a good pokemon

Compare generation 1 with generation 4 or 5

What I'm comparing is the artwork. If you pair gen4 and gen1 with the same gradients, then you would have nothing to complain about. As far as I'm concerned, the look of the new generations are more-detailed, thus better.

Does that not look like a pokemon? It has the same characteristics of the older gens, just more detailed.
