( this is from the Thread 'The Jungle',my story if you ask, which i decided not to necro so i had more flexibility in this one)
--------
It all happened too fastâ¦
It really happenedâ¦
The doomsayers have been preaching of it for years..
And we ignored it.
Rejected and shunned them because we thought they were crazy, talking about such unreal thingsâ¦
Now theyâre the ones calling us crazy for not believing them.
But, of course, there arenât many left to brag to anyway.
A story of the few.
I was at home when it happened⦠sitting on my soft, brown leather recliner, after work, watching the evening comedies. Too bad it was one of those rare hysterical onesâ¦
A newscast came on suddenly,â This is News Reporter Alex Miller of BCA News Willington. We have just heard reports of mysterious murders in the city, and city officials recommend staying indoors until we can find the perpetrator.â Ah not much new, enough crime in this city as it is, not very shocking for a string of murders. But nonetheless I followed their advice and stayed home.
The show continued, and after a few skits I walked across my carpeted floor into the kitchen to cook dinner. Since Iâm not exactly Iron Chef, I had the usual, a TV dinner and some leftovers from yesterdayâs . Halfway through cutting my Steak with Gravy, I heard a knock on the door. Not very often I have a visitor. so I put down my cheap metal knife and crept over my creaky wood floor ( the hallway had wood flooring instead of carpet, strangely enough) and looked through the peephole⦠Ah itâs that nice African lady from next door,Ms. Jonna!
â Hello Mike, nice weather isnât it?â she said, swaying slightly.
I knew something was up, because it definitely wasnât the best weather, humid and overcast, roughly 55 degrees as the night was setting inâ¦.
â Why yes it is.â I responded with an awkward smile.
â Mind if I come in, its getting chilly out here.â She says, tightening her red, velevety shower robe.
â sure, come on in!â i stepped to the side, and Aya stepped inside. We walked to the living room silently, the floor creaking slightly. I sat on the couch, and her the recliner, which embarrassingly still had dirty plates and empty pop-cans still lying around it, forgotten.
â Have you heard about those murders?â She asked, staring behind me towards the curtained window before looking at me again.
â Ah, I wouldnât think of it as much, especially not in this city.â I said passively, fumbling around for the remote.
â Well yes, but thereâs something different about this one⦠maybe Iâm just overly suspicious, but rarely do they ever tell people to stay at home until itâs dealed with.â
â well I donât know, it doesnât seem suspicious to me. But Iâll keep my eyes and ears open for news.â I said.
â Say, mind if I stay the night here? The⦠um.. water is broken and I canât call in a repairman until tomorrow.â
â Oh câmon, Aya, itâs only 7 oâclock and Iâm sure thereâs still a repairman available.â
â butâ¦.â
â but what?â
â Then why donât you?â She said defensively.
â Well I donât know how to.â I said, frowning at my lack of knowledge,â though if I did know then I definetly would.â
â Well I somewhat figured someone such as yourself would knowâ¦â Aya says, frowning.
â OK OK Iâll see what I can doâ¦â I gruntingly obliged.
So I changed out of my sleep pants and into a more presentable outfit ( Red polo shirt w/ Jeans and a black rain-coat), grabbed my small toolbox from the closet, and we stepped outside, myself locking the door behind me. We walked the all of 40 steps to next door, and I went inside first with Aya following.
âIn there.â She directed me to the bathroomâ¦
I looked in the toilet immediately, which appeared fine, then the sink, the same.
â Iâm not seeing theâ"â
â Right there.â Aya said, gesturing at a rather ominous trap-door that somehow had never come into my gazeâ¦
âOh, my bad.â I said shamefully, lifting up the trapdoor. The smell of mold+water I immediately perceived, and reluctantly I hauled myself inside the dark chasmâ¦
After about 20 hands the tunnel opened up into a small, damp room, lined with mold. The spores made me sneeze, which led to an uncontrollable fit of it. Recovering with my neck hurting from the violent sneezing, I looked up and saw the water pump⦠there was a small pool around it.I lugged my toolbox to the side of the pool and opened unscrewed the panel to the control panel. It was⦠Broken?? There appeared to be many tiny scratch marks where the controls and instructions used to beâ¦. how did that happen? .It was then I looked to my left and saw a pair of small, bloodshot eyesâ¦

Story Numbah 2
I grabbed a melon off of the display case, damp to the touch from the mist sprayers. It had the right color and textural appeal, so i put it in my basket. I looked around and saw the many familiar rows of food and products of the market, busy with many customers lazily browsing on a Saturday afternoon. I continued on, examining certain fruit and distributing judgement to each fruit by their merits, and eventually came to the soda aisle...
SSSCCCRRRCCHH! Thump
well that wasn't normal... i stood on my toes and glanced outside the large front windows, seeing a car and the top of someone's hair, kneeling. somebody will help that poor guy i thought indifferently, and luckily i didn't....
The next thing i saw was the head of hair suddenly rising, and i noticed it was a woman. She fell to the ground, uttering a mute scream from her lips as the victim leapt on top of her and i saw his hands mauling and mauling with long, thick nails...
there was complete silence in the store by now, and everyone was watching in shock. One of the cashiers and 2 do gooders ran outside to help her, but it was too late...
