Say something epic happens on AG.
Just something so amazing that the ones there to see it have had their mind blowns by the sheer awesomeness.
But unfortunately like all things this leaves.
What if we had the ability to save threads?
Not a forum search or anything, just like a subsection within a forum with screen shots/links to threads that happen in AG that just made history?
I'm going off a whim here, and my argument isn't strong, but just think about it.

Uh, what?

And how does such epic thing leave?

Seriously the best analogy I can think of, is the way 4chan has the /archive/ board.
It leaves eventually, because I presume that if a thread is old enough it gets deleted eventually. That's what I'm getting at.
Like I said it's difficult to convey into words what I'm getting at.

Well, it doesn't. Old threads don't go poof, they're just hard to find.

The way I can see that this would help is with AG3, so we can save the old threads we like

AG3 is not an image board, so most of the threads do not take up as much space and can just be left on the site without them having to be archived.

I'm sorry I meant to say AG (Armor Games) Not AG3 (Armor Games 3, which is the version being worked on in beta).

Correct Reton. AG stores all threads, unless the entire thread has been intentionally deleted by the moderators or admins. My guess would be that the forums once we switch over to AG3 will work similarly, hence there is no need for an 'archive'.

Even when we 'delete' a thread, it still isn't fully gone. I'm pretty sure someone like cormyn could retrieve it.

something called a forum search. derp. google also saves cache of threads... like my art thread for example can still be viewed through cache. even though it is deleted

Remember, not all threads are searchable through a custom engine such as DDX's and not everything is retained in Google's cache.

This is when a list of links come in handy..

Remember that time when some kid made thread about his video games been thrown it the garbage by the cleaning lady, and then someone made "I just threw some kid's video games in the garbage" thread. That one should have been archived, funnies thing I saw here.
Then again maybe the same guy made those two threads for lolz but it was funny nontheless.

I also remember a thread called "I've lost it", made by the user "whereismymind"; I lol'd for about 2 minutes.

But hey, guys, if you wanna archive your own threads, why not just screenshot them and save it to your computer to pull out when we get old and crusty to remember the good ol' days? I screenshotted NinjaFest '10 so I don't have to keep going back to the fame thread to find it.

Correct if wrong, but I do believe Cormyn and the team still doesn't know what to do with the forums, whether it's keeping all the old threads, or starting off with a clean slate. Either way, if you want some threads to be saved, then the best way is to screenshot them.

If I have my way, we'll migrate the forums. It'll just take some time because we have, literally, 1.2 million forum posts (not all of them active).

wo.Ow 1.2 million thats way too many to be migrated

Is there a way to migrate only the real forum posts, meaning the ones that are still listed in the Community? (wow, 1.2 million posts.)

Yeah a lot of those posts have been locked because they are just some dupe thread or they are basically useless, not saying that any of these threads are useless.
