I don't think that people that wear glasses are nerds. If you wear glasses then you have problem with your eyesight. I have glasses but sometimes I don't wear them and my reason why is that I only need them to see stuff far away.
Not necessarily, it is the person wearing them. Seriously, people, kids especially, will find any reason to make fun of someone else. Much of the time they are jealous about some item or talent the other kid has.
Isn't possible to assume a student who cares about their grades will wear reading glasses if necessary to continue doing well in school, while someone who doesn't care about their grades, and slacks, may very well need reading glasses, but either doesn't read a lot at school, so doesn't bother to wear their glasses, or just doesn't even care to get their vision checked?
So it just appears that only smart people ("nerds" are wearing glasses and need glasses, but in reality more people need them, but they are people who don't care to wear them or care to do well.

You have to be really stupid and really want to look like a moron to not get glasses if you are near-sighted. If all you need is reading glasses, then sure. I would know, since I have been there. It is annoying to have to put on glasses just to read, and then take them off to look at the black board, and then on again to read... It is much easier to have a headache from poor eyesight, than to switch from one to another. At least as a kid. Being near-sighted, however, even just a bit, actually means you have to squint your eyes to look at stuff further away than, say, a meter. Which means you will look stupid a good amount of the time, you will most likely get headaches from straining your eyes, and you won't be much fun in most sports either, because the coloured blobs of blur only transform into a ball just before it hits your face/you should have hit it. To take me as an example again: I currently have around -2 on both eyes. I can see something clearly, if I stand about half a meter away if I don't wear my glasses. Which means that unless the menu for a restaurant is written with huge letters, I have have to get really close to read it. With my glasses, I usually see better than most of my classmates.

In this case its true, but i hate it when you diss someone and someone else is like 'you're teasing them cause your jealous!' NO! im teasing them because they're different and it's funny. Like Justin Bieber

Yeah, I agree.
I had a longer post that had a more in depth example. But I totally disagree with the, "if you wear glasses you are a "nerd"" stereotype. I have met and known plenty of people who wear glasses, and or contacts, and that had a large variety of different hobbies, interests, likes, dislikes, and levels of intelligence. I've also met people that dress the "nerd" part, but were far from what you might consider a "nerd". (I put the term "nerd" in quotes because as wikipedia states:
"Nerd is a term that refers to a person who avidly pursues intellectual activities, technical or scientific endeavors, esoteric knowledge, or other obscure interests, rather than engaging in more social or conventional activities. It often carries a derogatory connotation or stereotype."
I don't find those qualities to be negative and I don't like the derogatory connotation of the term. And I also find it hard to classify someone as a "nerd" even if they do fit the definition of the term. What really makes someone a "nerd"?)
well, excuse me if someone has said this already but heres the reason.... the stereotypical perseption of the "nerd" wearing glasses carries on into todays society....(rarely seen.... in my region)made popular through the media it has swept the world with this perseption of a nerd being someone who wears glasses pocket protectors suspenders andddd wat not.. so those who wear glasses can be classified as nerds..... technically speaking im a jock who is a nerd(im brilliiiiiiiiiant and i wear glasses, go figure) ahahahahahh GO PATSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
I used to wear glasses myself, but now I wear contacts, and in my opinion there are a few reasons.
*Profiling, made by media and Hollywood. Alot of movies from the 70s, 80s, and 90s having the nerd character with the taped up glasses etc. *Studies. Walker pointed that part out *Usually true. Who am I kidding, I'm kind of a nerd. I like to tell my friends and girlfriend random facts. I like to test family and friends on trivia stuff. Get me on a subject that I am very interested in and I could talk for hours about it. Also a lot of my friends with glasses are like that too in a way. When you talk about something they know they have alot to say and stuff they say you wouldn't just know randomly. We aren't major nerds (at least I think).
