Who will win? Bear Grylls or Les Straud? Frankly, Bear beats any man other then Michael Westen at anything forever. Anything other then that is blasphemy, but still, tell me who you think is better and make sure to include why
For actual survival skills, I think it is Bear. But for psychological stability in the wild, It's Les because he goes into the wild by himself without a camera crew. But i think the best of both is Bear Grylls
Well it really means what you mean by "win" you mean in a survival contest or like fighting each other. Although if you mean survival and fighting I say Chuck Norris. :P
Bear Grylls is fake all he does is stunts and gives you few real survival tactics. SOme stuf he suggestes you should do could get you killed. Although The show is fun to watch!
Man vs Wild is a more entertain show, but that's because it's fake. Bear is performing stunts. He has a stunt team with him and often when he climbs he has a tether to keep him from plunging to a grizzly demise (haha grizzly bear).
"...some situations are presented to Bear..." appears before each episode and it means that those situations are staged.
Did I watch the show. Yeah. Did I like it, yeah. Do I like Bear's personality. Yeah. But it's still fake.
Since the OP asks about what person is better, I assume at survival (and not in general) and that it would have to do in realistic situations. In that case Les Straud.
One big difference I noticed about the two shows was that in "Man vs Wild" Bear allows wanders all over the place (wasting energy) and then finds a way out of the woods, forest, desert, etc. Were in "Surviorman" Les usually stays in one spot and sets up a shelter, finds food, etc. "Surviorman" just seems more plausible in the sense that he isn't doing action movie stunts to stay alive.
There was an episode of "Man vs. Wild" where Bear climbs down large hole (it was like an empty well size and shape wise) using two sticks. He was in the desert and he did it to get a drink of water out of the mud at the bottom. My only thought is, if you were alone and lost in the desert, why would you risk trapping yourself at the bottom of a large well like hole to get two sips of water?
in responce to the last post, bear shows us survival tactis by wandering around everywere, not just wasting energy (and though most dont watch it to learn things, its more entertaining). And if you were dying of thirst ina desert your only option is to risk your life to survive.
I really liked the show at first. I still enjoy it. I also still think Bear is respectable (he served in the military) and I think he is an excellent host. And you do have to give him credit for swimming in the ice water, eating all the nasty stuff, jumping out of the helicopters, etc. But after finding out it was fake I didn't quiet beleive it was that fake. Did more research, watched more of the shows, saw some "Man vs. Wild" behind the scenes, and watched his new series ("Worst Case Scenario". I then saw how constructed, and fake the show is compared to a real live survival situation. It just seems dangerous to present a show as if it is giving you viable survival tips, when they aren't.
-Bear tames a wild horse, oh weight they weren't actually wild horses and you couldn't ride one even if you could get on it.
- Bear climbs a sheer cliff face, but in reality he had some sort of harness (I'm not saying he shouldn't wear the harness or tether, but you are risking breaking a limb and dying much faster if you are stranded in the wild and try to climb a cliff.)
- Bear makes a raft out of trees, but wait he had people help him and in reality it would take weeks on end.
And if you were dying of thirst ina desert your only option is to risk your life to survive.
No, because if your dying of thirst you wouldn't have enough energy to climb down the hole, that might not have water, and then climb back up. Plus while in the hole you aren't visible for rescue. It may also take more water (lost from sweat) climbing down than hole than the amount of water you would get out of the well like hole.
Survivor Man. It obviously wins in the "real" area, also in the entertainment area for me. There is real urgency and danger for Les, Bear is just a ex-special forces guy being presented with situations to show survival skills. Perhaps Man vs. Wild deserves its merits. It probably teaches you more actionable survival skills than Survivor Man.
