Jonas was sledding down the hill with Gabe. He was almost at the bottom when a bullet went past him. Jonas recognized it from one of his war memories. Jonas thought to himself, âI need to get down the hill before I get hit.â Gabe did not recognize the danger and was screaming with delight. Jonas covered Gabeâs mouth to silence him. The attacker shot again. Jonas was almost hit. He got to the bottom. Somehow the sniper had stopped shooting. Exhausted, Jonas fell down on the ground.
âAhem.â Jonas heard. He looked up. There was a hooded figure standing in front of him.
âWho are you?â Jonas asked.
The figure said, âI am what I am.â Wordlessly he moved away. Jonas, still clutching Gabe, ran after him. The hooded figure went into a dark cave. Jonas hesitated for a moment and then went into the cave.
Jonas gasped. Inside the cave was an elegantly decorated room. Chandeliers hung from the ceiling and there were beautiful chairs made out of wrought iron. The cave was dark and the smell of incense was heavy in the air. There was a golden seal at the end of the cave. It had three wavy lines on it.
âCome in,â said the hooded figure, âI have much to tell you.â
Jonas sat down and listened as the figure wove his tale. âYou must have seen our seal. The three wavy lines symbolize memories. We are an order that preserves memories. For these reasons we are very protective. That explains the sniper that shot at you. He will be reprimanded.â
Gabe started fussing and Jonas started to comfort him when the figure said, âLet me comfort him.â The figure picked up Gabe and transmitted a memory that made Gabe fall asleep.
The figure continued, âOur order was founded by the Supreme Giver five hundred years ago. He saw what Sameness really was. So he fled and settled here with his followers. The Supreme Giver started to collect memories from the void. The void is a place where memories reside. We go there and take memories. I have been to the void many times. To defend ourselves from the outside, the Supreme Giver taught his followers martial arts and weapons crafting. As a rite of age, we forge our chosen weapons.â
The figure took a sheath with a sword inside. He took the sword out and showed it to Jonas. It had three wavy lines on the blade.
âThe lines collect memories from the people it kills. I chose a Katana for my weapon. It has aided me many times. For my chosen martial art, I have chosen Krav Maga. It is a martial art that injures quickly.â
The man paused. âYou must understand that this order is not an order of murderers. We kill only when we have to. I know that you were trained as a Receiver. Do you want to join?â
Jonas was stunned. Did he want to join this order? He thought quickly. Yes he did.
Jonas said, âYes, I want to join.â
The Order Giver nodded. âThere is much to be done. You can choose which weapon and martial arts you want.â
Jonas smiled. He knew what weapon he wanted.

Ten years laterâ¦.

Jonas stood, looking over the valley. He was wearing a hooded cloak and he was wielding a katana. He was trained in the art of a ninja and was tall. He was standing watch, looking for potential new recruits.
Jonas was looking over the landscape when he saw something in the sky. It was an airplane with the insignias of the Community Jonas left. Jonas also noticed a large mass coming up to the summit of the mountain. Upon closer inspection it was an army.
Jonas sounded the alarm. Five other Givers ran up to him. âGet guns and artillery,â Jonas ordered, âDonât shoot until you know what they want.â
Jonas ran to his room and put on body armor. He charged it with memories so it would be stronger. Jonas took a Galil and a white flag.
Jonas climbed up to the summit of the valley. When Jonas got to the top he asked, âWho is your leader?â
A red haired woman said, âI am.â
Jonas asked, âWhy are you here?
The woman said, âTo get Jonas back. We need him.â
Jonas said, âNo.â
The woman said, âThen we are prepared to fight.â
Jonas was torn. Did he want to leave the Givers or stay?
Jonas said to the woman, âI will consult the memories.â
The womanâs eye widened. âJonas?â She asked.
Jonas nodded.
Fiona started crying, âI thought you drowned!â
Jonas said, âLetâs go to the Giversâ garden and talk about what happened.â
Jonas and Fiona walked to the garden. Jonas told Fiona everything that happened to him. Then Fiona started.
âWhen you left, we were told you died. We did the Ceremony of Loss. Immediately, the memories came back. Asher and I, along with others, were forced to leave. The Elders took over and fortified the Community. Your parents are stuck inside. We need the community for a base. Can you help us?â
Jonas thought for a minute. He wanted to help.
âLetâs go.â Jonas said.
Jonas informed the other Givers that they are going to help the community. They split up into different branches. Jonas was the head of the Special Forces. Jonas and his team geared up. Jonas took an AK-47, some body armor, and a Katana.
His troop met up at the hanger. They filed into a squad plane.
After a few hours, it was time to jump. Jonas started to run toward the exit. He jumped. The wind was horrible. Jonasâs eyes started to water. Somewhere inside him, a voice screamed, âPull the release!â
Jonas pulled the release.
He landed on top of a dwelling. Jonas pulled out his gun. He loaded it and jumped off the dwelling. Jonas looked around. He saw his troops together.
Jonas joined his troops. They assembled and started marching toward the Elders. When they got there, they sieged the place.
A few days later, Jonas decided to invade. He assembled a crack team to sneak into the building.
An hour later, Jonas broke a window and sneaked in. Jonas saw a room where voices were screaming. He cocked his gun and moved in.
No one was inside, save for a hooded figure. It sat there silently. Jonas said, âWho are you?â
The figure stood up. He drew a sword. âI am the Giver.â
Jonas drew his sword.
The Giver said, âI must kill you.â
Jonas was shocked. This could not be happening.
The Giver attacked.
Jonas blocked.
They fought like this for hours, the Giver lunging and Jonas parrying.
Jonas found an opening and knocked the Giver over.
As Jonas leaned over the Giver for the death strike, the Giver wheezed, âYou donât know who you are. I am a fragment of your imagination. You are a lone figure among the cosmos.â
The world spun around Jonas. He saw only black.
Jonas was truly alone.

What do you think of it?

It's a good story, but I don't think it really goes with anything that went on in the giver. I think it may be better as its own individual story than as an extra chapter to the giver.

Do you know why the book ended so abruptly? In order to be considered a child's book, it has to be 200 pages or under. So thats why she ended it there.
