This is a story I wrote on a plane once because I was bored.
The Hidden City
It was a hot day when young Roran heard of his fatherâs illness. Roran was just coming home from the market after selling eggs. His father would be pleased they had sold over 3 dozen eggs.
When he got home the doctor was at his house. Roran rushed inside and found his father on his bed being treated by the doctor.
âFather what happened!?â said Roran.
âItâs not goodâ said the doctor. âYour father has a very rare disease called Hispaniaâ.
âWhat is Hispania?â said Roran.
âIt is a disease that ravages your internal organs while making your bones weakerâ said the doctor sadly. âThere is only one cureâ. âThe pollen of the Spanosia flowerâ.
âThen why canât we get some?â said Roran.
Because the Spanosia flower died out over a century agoâ sighed the doctor. âBut there is a legend of a secret glade where the flower still grows.â
âThen I will find this glade!â exclaimed Roran.
âBut you donât even know where this glade isâ said Roranâs father.
âI will attempt to find it anywayâ said Roran. âGoodbye Father I will save you, I promiseâ.
So Roran went on his way with his dog Arrow, his pack and some food. He was just on the border of his small town by the forest when Grisla, the town sorcerer gave him a map.
âThis is a map to the gladeâ she croaked.
âThank you very muchâ said Roran,
So Roran and Arrow traveled on their way through the forest when they saw it was getting dark. Roran put down his things and made a fire. He took his bow and shot a rabbit for them to eat. They had their fill and slept.
When Roran and Arrow woke up the next morning they heard a noise. It was a Shurku otherwise known as a mountain wolf. It howled and ran towards Roran. Roran hit it with his stick and injured, it ran away.
When Roran and Arrow reached the town of Yazac Roran went to the armory.
Roran said âDo you have a sword and shield I could buy?â âSure doâ said the shopkeeper. âWhat kind would you like, a double handed sword or a single handed?â âI would like a single handed and a shield pleaseâ said Roran
âThat will be 4 silver pieces pleaseâ said the shopkeeper. âThank youâ said Roran handing over the money.
Roran and Arrow went to the inn and paid for one nightâs stay. When Roran got in to their room he took a nice hot bath. The next morning Roran put on his clothes, his sword and his pack and they went on their way.
Their next stop was over a mountain so they started climbing up the winding trail. The way was cold and snowy but they made it to the other side.
âHere it is Arrow!!â said Roran as they saw they were on the exact spot on the map where the flower was supposed to be.
âBut where is everything, there is only a harp and a pondâ wondered Roran. âWell since there is no one here I suppose I could play the harp.
As soon as Roran touched the harp a whirlpool appeared in the pond and Roran thought he could see a city. So he jumped in and there he was transported to a city underwater that was much bigger than the glade.
âIntruderâ âIntruder Alertâ yelled a guard. âHow did you get here?â asked the guard.
âI am not sureâ said Roran. âI just want to find the Spanosia flower pollenâ. âYou may have the pollenâ said the guard. âWhat are you?â said Roran âWe are fairiesâ said the guard.
âWhat is thisâ said the queen. âWho is this outsider?â
âI am Roran of Hecbur your majestyâ said Roran.
âAnd what do you want Roran of Hecbur?â
âI would like the pollen of the Hispania flower pleaseâ
âYou may have your pollen if you can defeat the dragon of Angmarâ. âWhy do you want me to kill this dragon?â said Roran
Because he is taking our gold and taking our people as slaves.â
So Roran got fairy armor and entered the dragonâs lair. He fought the dragon and he got burned on the side. He stabbed his sword down the dragonâs throat and it stopped moving.
Because of his bravery Roran got a new sword and the pollen. So he went to the surface with Arrow and went home.
When he got to his house he gave the pollen to the doctor and the doctor fed it with a glass of water to Roranâs father.
âHow did you find this?â said the doctor.
âI found it in the gladeâ said Roran.
So Roranâs father was cured and they went back to their farming. All was well in their village.
But in the glade the dragon woke up, and it wanted revengeâ¦
