You are looking at mainstream, popular games. I think you haven't looked at the Wii's game library for such hardcore games. You want character development and a story? There's plenty of that. Off my shelf: SSBB (which you've talked about), Phantom Brave, Phantom Brave: We Meet Again, Monster Hunter Tri, SoulCalibur Legends, Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 5, Super Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess, Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn.
Ah I realize now that what I said there was stupid. I have Monster Hunter Tri(have about 300 Hours gameplay on it) and Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn.
And you seriously care about this? I thought gaming consoles were for, y'know, gaming?
I do completely disagree on that though. It could have easily played DVDs. I know nearly everyone has a DVD player or something that can play DVDs, but about 6 months ago my DVD player broke and some friends brought some movies over and I was pissed. That is irrelevant now though I have a DVD player and also an Xbox. And for the media and themes...Most people compare the three main consoles together, and considering the Xbox and PS3 have these options, alot of people expect the Wii to have them also.
Generation-1 DS did have a backlight, good sir. Albeit one that didn't blind your eyes with intense light that sapped its battery life. The DS went from strong, durable, dimmer, and a stronger set of stereo speakers to flimsy, fragile, brighter, and lower-quality speakers. The third generation of the DS added a camera.
I didn't know it had a light, the only time I played one was some kid (not really my friend) I met had one and we were outside. As for the light being blinding I always have it all the way up and I tend to crank up my TV and monitor brightness also. Yes I still have my eyesight. I would say it is personal preference whether you are using a brighter backlight.
Again, actually browse the game library and give the underground games a chance. Some of them actually get higher ratings than those that are in the spotlight.
I have 17 DS games , but the only games I want to pick up and play again even years after I bought them are Pokemon. I tend not to buy games as often any more unless I have seen extensive gameplay of it, to make sure It is something I want. After looking at my games shelf and seeing I have so many games, I don't just want to play every thing I hear is good.
Your right that the wii does have a good library, but Hardly any games I buy I consider worth it years later when I don't play them anymore. I don't want to buy a game and have it sit on a shelf after I beat it.
For arguing your case on the faults of Nintendo, your arguments sure aren't holding water.
I didn't want it to sound like I disliked Nintendo, which I obviously don't considering I have 110+ Nintendo titles (over every system) dating back to the NES all the way up to the Wii, and I am a subscriber to their magazine, but I have very high standards when It comes to games. I don't want to play games to pass time or have a nice quick story, it is a hobby (yeah call me a nerd).
I only have 8 wii games and the only ones I ever want to play now are SSBB and
sometimes MHT. Even a hardcore game like MHT where I have ~300 hours I feel I have done everything. Thats probably the longest time I have ever spent on a single game for Nintendo , except maybe Pokemon Crystal when it came out, I was obsessed with it. And the only game I have ever speant more time than that on on any system is Morrowind, which wins by an astronomical gap. It was my life then, and I still play ~9 years later. And Oblivion but not as much as Morowind. On no Nintendo Game, out of ALL the Nintendo games I have, have I spent anywhere near that.
I admit It was wrong and stupid to judge the entire library just from my 8 games, but I also judge a games quality from what I hear from others. So unless I hear a game is not a game, but a phenomenal experience in another world, I will never play it.
I already said but I <3 Nintendo. I would have the same complaints for the other "consoles" regarding FPS games, but that is a tale for another time, as in never.
