So me and my friend are planning to make our own adventure-quest flash game. something artistic and emotional.

This is our first game.
I'll be doing most of the stuff like programming, making the visual art, building the game in flash...
and we will both compose the music and write the plot.

So what do you think are the steps we should take, and in what order, to make the production process more fun and productive?

First of all, I think you should have the idea of what you can code before you write the game mechanics. I have seen many people wishing to create the next "best freaking game in the world", with little programming language. He adds many features, things like this, and this, and this. But then he realizes he can't to this, and he can't do that. He is then forced to remove that.

I'm not saying you should not add that many features to your game. I actually encourage you to. How would you know that you can't do it if you don't try right? But still, it would be nice to have an idea.

Oh, and you're pretty much going to do everything in that project? Well, perhaps it's what you guys talked about, I guess that's okay.

Anyways, about making the production more fun and productive, well, I can't really say anything about that unless you're really dedicated. There will be many hiccups and bugs along the way, and many people might hate your game, write curse words, and pretty much try and kill you, despite the fact that what you are offering is free (of course, I'm not sure in your case if it is even free or not.)

If you're wondering where I got that, most (pretty much the general idea) is from the "surviving indie game development" book. Of course doesn't really teach you how to program and everything, but it's still a pretty good book. If this is your first game, then you might want to read it if you have time. Not necessary though.

Good luck about your game, and please provide a link to the game in my profile!
