Gather round, found and prepare For a tale of love, trust, and despair As Silver, being epic, fought off the beast That brought peril to all kingdoms near the East And rescued many folks Then ate some pie filled with egg yolks The beast will chew you to a mush Gather round, found and prepare For a tale of love, trust, and despair Taste the satisfaction of a good story Don't worry parents, it's not too gory! ~SM~ When the fearful monster attacked, we all thought that was it. But when I discovered my own power, that all changed. I was once a mere person in that village, significant to others in no way. I once had a job, cleaning the bathroom of a kinky little pie shop. And I once had no need to sleep with my sword. All until I had no hope. Let me explain. A humongous dragon of powerful odor had invaded our village, and when it destroyed my family's home and the shop I worked in, I suppose I felt like I needed to take action. And that I did. But training for a fight with the beast was more than a pushup or two in the morning. After all, most knights had trained their whole lives, and had others train them in exchange for lots of money. But I was left with nothing. All of my friends and relatives had been burnt to a crisp, our village now having a population of a mere few hundred. I truly was alone. But I wanted to feel more significant than a rock for a change. I wanted to be a hero. Or in this case, a heroine, and that was part of the problem. And girl becoming worthy of saving a village? Not common. Until I looked outside of the boundaries of the village, and met my master. TO BE CONTINUED
A man sat literally on the boundary of the village, where the ground and horizon blended. He was eating a foot-long sandwich. To see food being eaten, and so daintily as he did, was rare considering the current state of my village. No one had enough food. Yet here he was, eating the sandwich carelessly. I walked over to him. I have a good rule to live by; where there's some food, there's more. And there was. Just I was behind him, I fell. It was no accident, it was as if a rock I was certain hadn't originally been there had appeared before my feet. I was I the presence of some kind of hero. "Excuse me, sir, but where did you get that food?" He grinned. "Subway." Sub... way? Was that the way of sub...marines? I glanced around, but there wasn't a trace of water, let alone submarines in them. "Pardon me?" "Oh, I forgot where I was." What? Just, what? "Please do elaborate. I haven't a clue where to get such savory looking food." [A note from the author: Subway is not paying me for product placement.] "Do you really want to know?" I nodded. "Would you really like to learn our ways?" I nod. He took a long stick I hadn't noticed before that was beside him and hit it against the ground. He started muttering something inaudible, and suddenly a legion of flower petals spun around us in a tornado of floral speed. I closed my eyes to avoid getting the hurt with the petals. But when I opened my eyes, I wasn't in the village. Nor on the other side of the border. I was in what the man described as his place for training. What had I agreed to?!
