Quality of graphic and sound, the contrast, the story, gameplay and controls.

I usually look for originality of ideas first, then gameplay and controls, then how much effort and thought was put into the game, then if there is any problems or anything that can be added to the game to make it better, and lastly the graphics and music of the game.

When I rate a game, this is the criteria that I rate it in.
1. Gameplay.
2. Originality
3. Music.
4. Characters
5. Story.
6. Graphics.

Graphics dont really matter for its the fun factor that counts, The actual game, not the looks of it. I really dont judge a book by its cover or in this case, a game by its graphics. The graphics could be totally lame but I would still love it because the game itself was fun.

I look for something original, or at least a new take on a familiar game format. I also look for interesting story lines, decent graphics and most importantly fun game play.

The best way to ensure a low rating (from me anyway) is to have annoying music, poorly defined or non-adjustable controls, and boring stories/plots

When I review a game, I do a "the Good, the bad" type rating. The biggest thing I look for is obviously how fun it is. I know, this may be more of an opinion thing, but a game needs to first be able to keep my attention before I can give it a thorough review.

Second: I look for game play. Game play for me breaks up into four sections:

The controls: The controls need to be simple for a flash game, unless it's necessary to have a lot of buttons, and whatnot. I don't care too much how easy or hard controls are to get used to for a game, but they should be pretty simple.

The overall difficulty: If a game is overly difficult, then I just get pissed off and stop playing. If it' too easy, then it just gets boring. There exists a "golden spot" in which the difficulty thrives at. Hard enough to challenge the player, but easy enough that most people can beat it.

How much "sense" the game makes: There has to be, in every game, some form of reality in it. There have been games that have just been extremely weird and it was difficult to get over. Even sci- fi games have some sense of "reality" in them.

The storyline: Every game needs a story. This makes the game more immersive and gives the game a point. If there is no story to the game, there is no major overall goal that you're trying to achieve, then the game isn't very much point to playing the game.

Graphics: The overall look and feel of a game should be tied into its story. The way I rate graphics changes game by game.

Finally sounds and BGM: This changes on a game- by- game basis. There are some games that need background music, and there are other that don't. It all depends on how you want the game to feel. The "feel" of the game also relies heavily on graphics. Sound effects also help add to the game.

I take all of these in to consideration before giving it a rating.

I rate games on, gameplay, graphics, and atmosphere.
