now, i started bass guitar for 6 months now or maybe 4 and I'm pretty good but, I'm still having trouble on making actual bass lines. For you bass players how do you mkae your bass lines is it by the drums the piano the singer or just the way the song is phrased. I play for my youth group so I play gospel type things but, mostly progressive rock or pop-rock

I'm a music theory student! I can help! But.... I don't exactly understand your question.
I mean, what do you need to play? If you have music in front of you, play it. If it's an improv, play whatever the heck you feel like.

I would congratulate you for your entering into the world of music. I would say to use whatever you know to express yourself. If you have a definite piece of music, you have a choice to obey the music or play it your way. If its improv, learn all the scales that you can remember and then play complete madness(but in the same key and following a scale). the best for rock metal is the harmonnic minor scale. Just plain rock is major/minnor penatonic. Jazz is the jazz scale and minor or abriged or major penatonic or diatonic scales.

Well, thanks for the tips for which scales to use for what genre any other scales that would work well, with progressive rock, soft rock and pop-rock? Also, another If i play crazy it doesn't work if its not on the same tempo or the same beat so would I follow the bass-kick from the drum when it comes to tempo and "attitude" of the music kind of like funk where you don't hold a not if not it more like a single hit and mute.

just keep playing and you will develop a sort of instinct. you just be able to play stuff in key as you learn bass better and figure out patterns and notes
