Hello! I just came here to ask if any of you can help me write up a poem. Basically It will come to the point when we will write some poems, but I don't know how. If anyone can give me tips or tutorials of any kind, and it will be a big help if you can direct me to a forum with the sole intention of teaching how to write poetry. Thank you.

Poetry is easy and harmless.

Step 1: Determine your subject. If you're like me, this will involve plenty of negativity, stereotypical topics, and randomness.

Step 2: Determine your meter. This can be very simple, or not so simple. It can be a set style such as iambic pentameter, or more freestyle.

Step 3: Determine your stanza layout. This is fairly simple. A stanza is the different 'aragraphs' of a poem. It can be four line, six line, alternating, or no stanzas at all! Anything goes.

Step 4: Rhyme scheme. ABAB, AABB, AABBA, an so forth. Perhaps no rhyme scheme at all with no rhymes at all.

Step 5: Write the poem.

Friendly crowd, and you can get plenty of help in whatever your poetic needs.

There is no one way to write poetry. Poetry is an expression of anything the writer desires, it could be serious, it could be silly, it could be happy, it could be sad.

There are many forms of poetry, the most liberal being free verse, in which you don't have to adhere to any rhyme or meter scheme.

An article about poetry forms and techniques may be found here.

The easiest form of poetry I can think of is a haiku, a japanese poem consisting of three lines, of 5-7-5 syllables each. Traditionally, haikus are centered around nature, although the subject can be whatever you choose. You can find examples here.

A more difficult one, but one I particularly enjoy is the sonnet, for which William Shakespeare is very well known, you can find them here.

I myself have written a few sonnets, and you can read them on the armorgames forums here

Good luck!

I should be more specific about the haikus. The haiku link that I pointed you to is translated from Japanese. Because of this, the poems may not contain the correct number of syllables.

Read some Ezra Pound. He set the bar for simplicity and raw emotion. True substance. He could capture a scene in as little as 14 words.
