I tried to keep one, but my problem is that nothing interesting ever happens to me. So it'd be:

2/11/10:

Nothing much happened today. The end.

2/12/10:

Guess what! Nothing. Also the end.

I had a day-by-day thing going on. If it really interest you, you'll keep up with it. If it doesn't, don't worry about it. The Social Networking sites have pretty much replaced the Journal/Diary.

I keep journals. I don't keep a "Dear diary, mood apathetic" kind though.

I have a travel journal where i express my feelings about countries i have visited and i have one where i jot down important things that have happened in the day.

I have a journal I've written in a couple times.

It has rather sensitive opinions and my views on the world, so it's important no one finds it under any circumstances, and if they do I kill them.

It's one of those.

(it's my super-secret food recipes)

Just kidding, it's not recipes. Though I do want some good recipes . . . .

Anyways, use a journal to unleash your wrath upon the page and speak frankly about your opinions of people. It's like talking behind their back, just cooler and less 'get your *** kicked later' type thing as no one is around to spread the rumor!

I used to keep an online journal, available to the public, for about four years. Come to think of it, I averaged about 1000 words a day in it... I must have spent a lot of time studying... not >_< At any rate it was eventually deleted. No big loss.

Now I'm trying to keep a journal again, but it's going to be far less frequently updated since I'm actually a lot busier.

I have a notebook, and I write book ideas in it, butnot likea diary. If I had a diary it would be a little like this:

Day 1

Tried to make a simple overhead shooter.

Day 2

Computer crashed. Tears were spilled.

Day 3

Wondering why I'm telling all this to an inanimate object.

I used to have one when i was ten... But like others, not much happened. Now, i carry a ringed notebook to write poems and opinions to later post online. ha.

I agree with this!

I've kept daily journals(I don't like to say diary, it sounds too prissy) since I was about 10?ish, I'm 16 now. Most of them just go like

Spent the day playing video games. Squandered my day, but I had fun!

Or something like that. And then maybe I'll add some random thoughts in. I like it because it's a good way to look back at past summers and stuff, so I don't grow up to be a 45y/o who says to their kids, 'well, guys, I don't really remember much of when I was your age...'

Welcome to my world

I'm trying to start a journal. Except, I'm writing it in story form.

Instead of: "Dear diary. I met a cute girl today."
I do this: "I walked down the stairs and there she was... the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. Etc."

I don't know, I guess it's just fun to pretend someone is writing a story about your life.

Yeah, but someone is writing your story. You write your own.

^ Ooh, that's some deep stuff right there. That will be the first line in a future best-selling novel written by me.

Anyway, I would write one, but I have two problems:

1. I don't have too much interesting things going on in my life.
2. There aren't any spots in my house where I can put it without a chance of it getting discovered.

no. I had a hard time, especially when I blew up a balcony with the journal on it.

But the best way is to leave in on or in your bed, so you know you have to do it.

I have a shoebox full of used sketchpads under my bed, and I have the box itself nested in its lid. I keep my journal between the box and its lid. It's totally invisible and not the first place anyone would think to look...then again, now that I'm older most everyone knows not to fudge with my stuff.

I used to keep a journal.. for a few months. It was originally a time-killing measure. I was always confined to my house for reasons which I won't elaborated upon. From morning till night, I'd always be stuck with my notebook. A bunch of pens were always in my pocket, ready to be drawn at any moment.

I'd usually put out several pages each day on a number of random topics. Anything that provoked thought was mentioned. It only mattered that I was spending time writing. I wrote with the intention of re-reading my journals much later in the future.. kinda like storage. It was pretty free-flowing; sometimes I'd write out a plain summary of the day or an unreasonably lengthy monologue based on some random encounter. I could almost liken it to a blog that only I would bother reading. At stages it was obsessive and unusually absorbing. I even kept the time I started and stopped writing for future reference. I started sketching diagrams and making tables for some reason. I was that bored.

In the end, I managed to write 200 pages over the space of around four months. Most of the pages had at least 200-300 words. In retrospect, it was pretty fun... mainly because I was bored beyond belief.

I'm not writing in the same excessive manner nowadays because I have other things to do, but I might revisit journal keeping. Four hour sittings are painful.

By the way, I never really had a problem with privacy. I left it where I did and no one was obsessed with reading it while I was sleeping. Although whenever I was awake I'd always have it with me.

If you want advice from me, be sure to write. Any start is good enough. Even if you only manage to spit out a paragraph each day, you'll still be able to jot down something worth remembering. I regret completing ceasing my journal writing, instead of toning it down. Being terse is not necessarily bad.

I would probably keep a journal if I wasn't so paranoid that someone might find it.
