The Nintendo 3DS: The autostereoscopic device is able to project stereoscopic three-dimensional effects without requirement of additional accessories. The Nintendo 3DS features backward compatibility with Nintendo DS series software, including Nintendo DSi software. Announcing the device in March 2010, Nintendo officially unveiled it at E3 2010, with the company inviting attendees to use demonstration units. The Nintendo 3DS hardware received positive reviews at launch. IGN called its hardware design a "natural evolution of the Nintendo DSi system." CNET praised the device's 3D effect, while IGN called it "impressively sharp and clean", although it was noted that the 3D effect only worked if the system was held at the right distance and angle. A common complaint was the 3DS's battery life; Engadget reported to get 3 hours of battery life from the system, while IGN reported 2 to 4.5 hours of play.

In response to lower than anticipated sales figures, Nintendo cut the price of the 3DS worldwide by almost a third in August 2011. In addition, the company introduced the "Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors Programme", through which existing 3DS owners were able to download ten NES games and ten Game Boy Advance games at no extra cost. It is called the "3DS ambassadors Program".

The PlayStation Vita: The handheld includes two analog sticks, a 5-inch (130 mm) OLED multi-touch capacitive touchscreen, and supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and optionally 3G. Internally, the Vita features a 4 core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore processor and a 4 core SGX543MP4+ graphics processing unit, as well as LiveArea software as its main user interface, which succeeds the XrossMediaBar.

The device is fully backwards-compatible with all PlayStation Portable games digitally released on the PlayStation Network via the PlayStation Store, with the Vita's dual analog sticks being supported on selected PSP games. The graphics for PSP releases will be up-scaled, with smoothing to reduce pixelation.

The device features a "super oval"-shape similar to the design of the original PlayStation Portable, with a 5-inch (130 mm) OLED capacitive touchscreen in the center of the device. The device features two analog sticks (unlike the PSP which features only a single analog "nub&quot, a D-pad, a set of standard PlayStation face buttons (circle, square, triangle, and x) two shoulder buttons (L and R), a PlayStation button and Start and Select buttons. Internally, the device features a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore processor (3 of the 4 cores will be usable for applications) and a quad-core SGX543MP4 + GPU. The device also features a rear touch pad, two cameras (a front and a rear), stereo speakers, microphone, Sixaxis motion sensing system (three-axis gyroscope, three-axis accelerometer), three-axis electronic compass, built-in GPS (only for the 3G version) as well as Wi-Fi, 3G, and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR connectivity. The two cameras feature the abilities of face detection, head detection, and head tracking. It also allows for customization and personalization. The PlayStation Vita will have 512 MB of RAM and 128 MB of VRAM. The amount of RAM allows cross-game chat to be used on the system (in contrast to the PlayStation 3, which only has 256 MB of RAM).

The PlayStation Vita will be released as two different versions: one with 3G support, and a cheaper version without 3G support. The more expensive 3G-version will also come pre-loaded with some special applications that take advantage of 3G's "always-on" capabilities, such as augmented reality software. The 3G service will be partnered with AT&T in the US.

Unlike the PSP, the PlayStation Vita will not support video output or contain a removable battery. Sony also confirmed during TGS 2011 that the battery would last 3-5 hours of gameplay, 5 hours of video, and up to 9 hours of music listening with the screen off.[citation needed] An external battery option was announced in an interview by SCEA Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida. The PS Vita is equipped with a storage media slot in addition to the NVG card slot, so that users can choose their memory capacity based on their use. So far the capacities announced range from 4 GB to 32 GB.

Which is better? Leave your answer in the comments!

Unlike the PSX DVR, PSP and PlayStation 3, the PlayStation Vita does not use the XrossMediaBar interface. Instead it uses a touchscreen-based UI dubbed LiveArea, which includes various social networking features via the PlayStation Network.[11]

Several games have been announced for the device, including Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Hustle Kings, Everybody's Golf Next (Hot Shots Golf Next in North America) as well as new iterations of Killzone, Wipeout 2048, Resistance, LittleBigPlanet, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend, Ridge Racer, Reality Fighters and Call of Duty.[25] In addition, several third-party studios showcased technology demos of the device by exporting existing assets from their PlayStation 3 counterpart and then rendering them on the device. Some of the games that were demonstrated include Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Yakuza Of the End, and Lost Planet 2. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd was also demonstrated to be running on the device to showcase the device's backwards compatibility with downloadable PlayStation Portable titles, which was also shown to be compatible with the PlayStation Vita's additional analogue stick.[26] Unlike the first PSP, the PlayStation Vita will come with Trophy support for games.[27][28]

The device will also support backwards compatible PlayStation Portable downloadable titles, PlayStation minis, PlayStation Suite games, PSOne Classics, videos, and comics from the PlayStation Store.[28]

Social networking apps, such as Facebook, Skype, Twitter, and foursquare, will be available to download for PlayStation Vita free of charge from the PlayStation Store. Information about this was released at Gamescom 2011.[29] In addition, a promotional video revealed that the web browser would support Adobe Flash Player.

In Japan, the PS Vita was released. I played it for a little while, and it was much better than the 3DS.
The 3DS has good games, but the 3d screen....not so much...

3DS for sure. Seriously, what does the PSVita have? Better graphics than the 3DS. Check. Two Touchscreens. Check. Innovation: Fail. All the PS Vita does is copy Nintendos touchscreens and improve the power of the psp. Coming games for the 3DS like Resident, Luigi's Mansion or Metal Gear are going to rock! The only exclusive title I envy the PSV for is uncharted, nothing else. Additionally, look at how the companies treat their customers: Nintendo supplies you with an SD card, AR cards and some games on the 3DS, what does Sony do? Force customers to buy a memory card for 20 bucks cause it ain't included in the starting packet. Also, when looking at Nintendo Series, and knowing that Fire Emblem, Smash Brothers, and many other Nintendo series which are awesome are going to be released on the 3DS, I can only laugh about Vita. Sorry but Sony hasn't noticed that just because they have great graphics they own the market. 360 was better than PS3, WiiU is gonna be great, and the 3DS is the best handheld out there and will stay for some years...

I have preordered the Vita. It seems to have everything I would like in a portable. It is a downer to hear all the nay-sayers posting all over the place.

Loptice, the Vita has been released, it is available for demo, and it has been showcased numerous times at various events. I have several friends that are stationed in Kuwait with me who had them imported here, and a few friends stationed in Japan who give it top marks.

As an owner of the ps vita and 3DS I can say is that they both have different things to offer to the market but the 3ds has its share of problems one of them being the angle at which the screen must be observed to experience the 3D in its entirety. The vita has its problems also one of them being is its lack of being able to play ps one classics to this day (in the future but its taking the piss).

I will not outline the entirety of problems of both machines, it goes without saying 'nothing is flawless'. Also please do not judge the machines on the games available but on the sheer hardware abd capabilities of the console itself

Hahaha what? I'm sorry but if you want to buy a gaming handheld, the games are kinda the most important part.

the information at the start references the consoles hardware mostly not the games itself thats my reasoning for my aforementioned statement

It doesn't matter there is written only about hardware. Question which one is better - not which one has better hardware.
