This is a short piece I've made to show you just how ruthless pirates such as Edward Teach and Black Bart could be.

The bow of the Freeman cut easily through the water. It was a large merchant, carrying gold and silver, along with fabrics, heading to Bristol. Her lanterns were blazing in the night air, but most of the crew were sleeping. The men on watch couldn't see past the light spill, as their night vison was destroyed by the lanterns.

Upon a sudden, a sleek, large ship was beside the Freeman, her sails a frightening blood red, her crew yelling and shouting, dressed in a rabble of clothing. Grappling hooks started thudding into the Freeman's port side. The pirates were clambering onto the merchant who had been dragged close to the pirate ship. The Freeman's crew were on deck, fighting to push off the invaders, but they started getting picked off by sharpshooters in the enemy's rigging.

After a short fight which cost half the Freeman's crew, the pirate captain confronted the sniveling idiot who captained the Freeman.
"What are you carrying, sir?" addressed the pirate, who wore a deep blue coat over his tall, muscled frame.
"Gold a-a-and silver and f-f-f-f-fabrics" stuttered the terrified, overbearing captain.
The pirate captain flicked a hand at a man near him, who gathered some others and strode into the hold.
The Freeman's crew were lined up on the starboard side, heads down, some shivering with fear.
Another man went to the pirate captain
"What of the survivors, Cap'n?"
"Survivors? There are no survivors" said the Captain coldly, and strode back to his ship.
All at once, twenty pirates stepped behind the Freeman's crew and captain, slit their throats and tossed them over the side.

Feel free to berate me, but I thought that was pretty good.
