Chapter 1 - The Beginning

For many years, dragons and mankind have been at constant war. Their seething hatred for each other never once waning, no matter how many of their own kin were struck down in battle.

But one faithful day, the clouds began to darken, and soon, they became crimson like blood. Both sides saw this startling change in their world, and soon enough, other effects began to take place. Trees would wither and die, the soil would turn black as the night and the clear, blue water would turn into acid.

The dragons and the humanoids blamed each other, insisting that the other was behind all of this. The war continued to rage on, with death claiming even more casualties than before!

It appeared that the mindless bloodshed would continue forever, that is, until a mysterious figure appeared in the middle of the battlefield just as the dragons and humanoids were deep in battle. The figure appeared to be clad in shadows, that appeared to twist itself into horrendous forms.

A single dragon charged at the man, aiming to rend him apart with his sharp claws. The man stood there as the dragon lunged, but when the dragon was a mere inch from him did the man snap his fingers and a large hand made out of shadows erupted from the ground, and wrenched the dragon from the air! The dragon struggled in the hand's grasp as the shadows began to slowly burn its flesh!

Both sides backed away as they saw this amazing, yet horrifying display of power. The man simply grinned as he watched the dragons and humanoids fear him. "Let this serve as a warning for you, as today, the age of Chaos, has begun!" and with that, the man raised a single shadowy arm. As soon as he did, the hand clenched itself into a fist and collapsed in on itself. A swirling mass of darkness replaced the space the hand once took and began to twist itself into a new form.

A dragon. The sight was a most horrible one indeed, even for the side of the humanoids. The dragon's eyes were white, and void of any life. It's glimmering scales replaced with vile shadows. The shadow dragon let out a ferocious roar that reeked of both sorrow and anger. A wave of pure shadow erupted from the dragon's mouth and echoed through the battlefield.

The dragons appeared to react negatively to this and let out howls of pain as the darkness destroyed them from the inside, leaving nothing but the hollowed out skeletons of the once proud beasts. The humanoids also appeared to have a negative reaction to the darkness as they fell to their knees, clutching their heads in pain. They wailed in protest as they were consumed in shadowy flames and soon enough, all that was left was ash.

The only ones who were left standing on the battlefield were five humanoids. The figure appeared to be rather surprised, "Outstanding! Nothing should have been able to survive after that blast! I'd love to turn your insides out to see how you did it, but I have a world to conquer."

The figure snapped his fingers again and erupted into a column of dark flames, leaving the dragon to cope with the survivors.
