Even I can't choose one game that I like above all others, partly because I've played too many games (who's complaining >.> and I love every one that I've played.
It's not a hard question at all, despite playing so many games, there's always that one that just beats them all.
Upon consideration, and despite Skyrim happening, my favorite still stands. Many have tried to take its throne but nothing has ever beaten it. Mass Effect 2 is the greatest game I've ever played. A fantastic story, fun combat, and the superb conversation system makes this game absolutely amazing. I am pooping bricks in anticipation for Mass Effect 3.
VERY hard question but i'd say that its MW3 black ops(i'm leaning towards black ops more than MW3 because of zombies and longer it has multiplayer maps where snipers can actually shoot outside of the range of a sub machine gun) or BF3
^ I mean, CoD is okay when you just want to play something okay real quick, but it degraded after WaW. While Battlefield, they can't degrade. So, BF3. The story is actually good, and the multiplayer is just AMAZING.

Generic shooters?
The story is actually good
I am disgusted by your post.
Mass Effect 2
It is certainly a good game.
Although I really love Halo 3, my favorite is pretty much a tie between Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. I like Fallout 3 slightly more due to Little Lamplight. That place is freaking cool.
Why do I like Fallout 3? Ahem:
- Open World - Great Story (Not just the main story itself, but all of the other smaller things; Vaults and their purposes, the holotags in Little Lamplight explaining how the community began, etc, etc) - Fantastic character mechanics (SPECIAL, Skills, Perks) - Over 100 locations to be found in a large world - Combat is fine, certainly not bad. (VATS can be slightly cheap but is interesting, and the rest is solid.)
