The Casual Gamer: One who has bad to pro skill, and only plays for recreation and to have a good time. Doesn't spend more than 1-2 hours playing.
I was going through this entire thread thinking I was gonna have to insert this one. You beat me to it lol. This is where fall, although I really hate FPS's so I do alot of really crappy Kamikazes too.
anyway... why is the topic only about shooters?
I was wondering this too. Many other games exist. In fact another good genre to talk of stereotypes is the RPG genre, with it's classes I have noticed lots of stereotypes. Note lots of these go together and I just split them up where I felt like it so bear with me.
I am gonna attempt to make a list of the types of players in MMORPG's since I have at least sampled easily 20 RPG's, I have run into many of these players. Keep in mind these are stereotyping maneurisms as opposed to actual classes the game might offer.
The Assertive Leader- The assertive leader is the type of person that will take leadership of a group if it needs leadership. Usually a very wise and knowledgeable player, but will listen to the party to make sure everything runs smoothly
The Aggressive leader- This player has leadership skills but often runs the party like a dictatorship, not standing for any lip or problems from the others
The Ego player- This is the player who can never accept when he makes a mistake. The player often has a decent amount of experience and skill but will not entertain the idea that he/she may be the problem.
The Teacher- This player often has alot of experience and will help teach or train the other players in how to play or use their abilities best. (This is where I fall)
The mute- This player will not talk to other party members. Often simply looking to finish a quest with no fuss, they follow the party and will usually help however they can, unless they are also deaf.
The deaf- Often coupled with being a mute, these players completely igonre talk and instruction from the chat box most mmo`s offer. Often a nuisance in battle, they are unpredictable and are not easily led.
The tank- Much as the role would suggest, these players need to get into the fray for the action. This is how they feel they contribute and are often unsatisfied/underwhelmed with buffing others. They are brutes who charge headfirst and expect aid to carry them through
The creature-phobic- these players in a party are often the ranged players (especially healers fall here often). They contrast the tank in that they can't stand being near any monsters or drawing aggro. Often need to be watched constantly to make sure they focus as opposed to running from a monster (yes these exist and they are soooooo annoying)
The trollers- Name kind of says it all. These players purposely annoy, anger other players for a reaction, often very aggressive and defiant.
The relationship players- These players are in the game for the social aspect of the game as opposed to the battling. These players are often low levels, and often girls (by no means do all girls fall in here, but the social players are almost always female, plz don't be offended). These characters aren't always reliable in a party but make great friends.
The high lvl social players- extension of the last type that I felt merited a seperate paragraph. These players are still very social but have experience in the game and are knowledgeable about hot topics in the game. They know news in the game, events and are great friends.
The item mall hound- These players are often very experienced and pay money into the game. These players often are very active traders and always will snap up a new fashion as it comes out. Very social and often very rich in game money. Make friends with these and you will probably get very expensive and valuable gifts for no to little cost.
The solo player- These players are very reluctant to party with others. Often go mute in a party, but they are often just aiming to do their own thing. They can often be very defiant or in a rush to finish a quest.
K so I realize some of these are a little weird but I worked really hard to make this list so I hope you guys appreciate this. If you feel there are more then feel free to add more. Like I said I fall under a couple of these but I mainly am a teacher type.
