No of course not it's just who you like as a player. It doesn't necessarily have to be all electric guitar players either. It can be a bass or acoustic players as well.
I think imi Hendrix is probably my favoutite, so innovative and pasionate. But Pete townshend is up there, few people can come close for energy and no one smashes aguitar quite like Pete ( Abbie Hoffman knows that).
John Petrucci Kurt Cobain doesn't fit in here by the way, he had a great talent for song writing, and singing, but there are many better guitarists... no offense towards Nirvana though, they're one of my favorite bands

Flea plays the bass guitar. I believe this discussion is about lead or rhythm guitarists. Although, I wouldn't be lying if I said that Flea is probably in the top 5 bassists alive.
And frankly, the reason why Cobain is not on anyone's list is because he really isn't THAT good. Ok, it's been a long time since his death and someone can say now, but Nirvana was O.K. That's it. Only ok. Learn to live with it.
I'm sure that any of my three or many other posts' guitarists could wake Cobain from the grave with their strings.
