And frankly, the reason why Cobain is not on anyone's list is because he really isn't THAT good. Ok, it's been a long time since his death and someone can say now, but Nirvana was O.K. That's it. Only ok. Learn to live with it.
Cobain was a great musician, but a horrible guitarist. But, calling Nirvana simply "O.K." is definitely an understatement. They started a complete new genre of rock, and revolutionized the face of music, pulling bands out of the 80's hair band days, and bringing them into the times of low, gravelly-voiced singers, and distorted guitar riffs.
The same trend also ended after Cobain's death, pushing rock music out of the picture, and bringing in pop.
i will agree with you on jimi and maybe kirk but im all about the blues guitarists like john lee hooker or BB King -i say no no no on buckethead -Synyster is border line - BUt what about some Frank Zappa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - and yes Kurt dosent belong on here he was all about the lyrics not guitar, his lyrics were poetry but his\\the bands guitar playin isnt that complicated

This is about our favourite guitarists. Not the guitarists we think are best. And personally, he's one of my favourites. He may not have been a great guitarist, but that doesn't mean he sounded horrible. And just because something is simple doesn't mean it's "bad".
One of the things that really bugs me about some music is the effort put in by guitarists/drummers/singers/whatever. You don't need to lose feeling in your fingers/mouth/arms to sound good. Over-done music ruins many a otherwise good song. That doesn't mean I think hard songs are horrible, I just hate over-done songs.
