Many, many successful fictions are turned into video games, as are real world events, such as WWII; so, whether you believe the Bible to be fact or fiction (not the discussion here), why is it not a video game?

The reason is likely that it would be highly controversial. The best way to circumvent this issue would be by making the game true to the Bible. No additional information or characters would be included, nor would the game attempt to dictate what was fact or fiction, nor would it inturprate the meaning of any events. That way, the player could draw what ever conclusion he wanted to from the experience, making it as meaningful or pointless as he wished.

Another issue with such a game would be the content. Not only in terms of rating, but in terms of game play. What genre would this game fall in? The Bible seems to have a little bit of everything. I personally believe that RPG might be the best ticket, but character progression would be an issue due to the many playable characters that would be necessary to accommodate the many books of the Bible.

Discussion points:
Why is their no Bible game?
Would you find a Bible game neat or offensive? How would religious groups react?
How could such a game be made in a way that stayed true to the subject matter but was still fun to play?

I'm sorry about my grammar, it's pretty rough in places and I'm too lazy to fix it.

Well the Bible isn't the only holy, religious document out there. I'm pretty sure that muslims and jews will get very outraged. Anyhow, I doubt the U.S. Gov't will allow this. They are barely allowing Rockstar release GTA games, I don't think they will let a company make a religious type of game like that.

PersianInvasion is correct. A lot of controversy will ensue, since not only Christians will be offended, Jews and Muslims will be offended.

Yep. There are so many different characters portrayed in the Bible. It would be suitable to follow the life of only one of them, not every single biblical figure.

There actually is two. They aren't very popular though. There is one that its like a quiz show they ask you questiona and you can also play minigames like run through the red sea, hit goliath with a sligshot ect. There is also another one where your like a boy and you train to be a soldier for like the isrealites or someone.

As said, there are Bible themed games. Most of then were made for the Atari back in the day, seeing as anyone who could make a game, put it on cartridges and convince a store to carry...made games. It was a sad time indeed.

I'm fairly sure one was called "Bible Stories." Just Google 'Atari, videogame, Bible' and you'll find them.

Wait, what? People complain about Rockstar making GTA, not the US government. When people write up newspaper columns about how awful GTA is, they do not necessarily reflect the views of the Federal government. But that is beside the point: The problem with GTA is not that it is controversial, but that it is violent. I doubt the government would illegalize a Bible game because it would offend religious associations. If they did, they would be sued.

As said, there are Bible themed games.
Emphasis added. But I'm not talking about a bible-themed game, I'm talking about the Bible as a video game. Beginning to end. I'm talking about a complete game, with loads of development time and a large budget, not a quiz show.

It would be suitable to follow the life of only one of them, not every single biblical figure.
But this would completely defeat the purpose of making a Bible video game.

Well the Bible isn't the only holy, religious document out there.
But, at least in America, it seems to be the most popular. It would seem that the most popular book is the one that would be best to make into a video game. Besides, the Torah is about the same as the Old Testament, right? (I'll admit I never got around to reading the Torah.)

Additionally, why would religious groups be offended? More importantly, why does it matter?

Just like "Passion of the Christ II: Crucify This!" the movie? LOL I would pay $80 to play something
like that, just for laughs. It doesn't really have to be anything proven to a point does it? It just has to be a game based on the bible, not anything trying to prove that Christianity is real or anything, OF COURSE they wouldn't allow it. Why do you think they tried passing a bill to modify a certain phrase out of the Pledge of Allegiance? Because there are Americans that don't follow that, and that it takes away freedom of religion, in some sense (don't ask me how that worked).

In any case, making a video game based on anything would be fine, influential games are not.

Freedom of religion goes both ways. The thing with the pledge is that the government shouldn't favor any religion. Private companies can do what they want. If you don't like it, don't buy it!

Right, just present what is in the text and allow the player to draw any conclusion they want.

I would also pay money to play a game about Jesus beating up dinosaurs or something, but it would kinda defeat the purpose of a bible game.

If you wanted to make it like the bible yes an rpg would be the best but you couldn't make your own choices think bout it you are eve you cant just sit around in the garden forever you know your gonna go eat the fruit....it would still be fun especially to be David who killed thousands of men and his three elite soldiers who killed an entire city to get him a cup of water.
