I like the answer Seyulshehir gave, I think that I would rather play a orginal style old school game with same graphics then have some redone pile of glitter that turns out to be very bad compaired to the orginal game.
There's a game on the original Atari 2600 called Combat. Yes, I have an old Atari... yes I have the game. Don't use it much though. So, the game features numerous "battles" between two tanks, two biplanes, two fighter jets, and two invisible tanks. It's actually more fun than it sounds.
I'm not as hardline as seyulshehir on this subject, but I'd have to say it would be on a case-by-case-basis. It would depend on what "improvements" they made to the classic in question. For example, I thought the remake of the NES classic Punch-Out for Wii was very well done.
