Alright guys, let me start out by saying that I know there are a lot of threads asking what console is the best. However, I really don't know a lot about them (as I've never purchased a console, especially not during a time of such good competition). So, I'd like to tell you guys a bit about what I want, and then maybe from that you can tell me what option I should go for. This is a more personalized thread, while the rest are based on the best specs.

So the consoles I'm debating between are the "big three." Xbox 360 (arcade, pro, elite), PS3, or Wii. Really I've narrowed it down to either the Xbox 360 pro or elite (depends on the best deal I can find). However, I'd also like to learn a bit about the PS3. I doubt I'll go for the Wii, as I've heard it gets boring fast, but if there's anyone who feels other wise I'd love to hear your opinion.

The most important factor in my decision is price. I would like to not pay over $250 for the console itself, and am hoping that I can get a few accessories or games for $300. Maybe $310 or $320. I want this to be a purchase that I enjoy for a long time though, so consider the quality of the console as well as the price.

Another important factor is the quality and frequency of games released. One thing that I don't especially like about the Wii is that the games seem mediocre in quality, as opposed to the other consoles. Especially graphics wise. Not to mention, Halo isn't on the Wii or PS3. Most of my friends play a lot of Halo, so I'd like to be able to join them.

Which brings me to my next point, which system is best for playing with friends? This is a major reason I'm leaning towards the Xbox, all my friends play it. I'd like to be able to get on Live after school and talk to them. However, I'd still like to know how the other systems compare, just in case.

Those are my major decision points, but I'd like to know your person opinion as well. Which console do you enjoy the best? Does one cost more in accessories/other costs down the road?

Thanks for your help guys. I know there are a lot of gamers on AG, so I thought this would be a great place to ask.

I think the 360 and PS3 are about the same price. Not sure, but I know both prices dropped.

With all the reasons you posted, you should get a 360. The 360's strongest point is it's Online. So many people have Live, and you're friends have Live too, so I'd get it if I were you.

Don't get the Wii, unless you want to get a few good games and get bored..Don't go the same path I did :P.

The PS3, however, has more "stuff" to it. It uses Blu-Ray, plays games, and let's you surf the web. If there are more things to the PS3, I wouldn't know :/. I've heard from a few people that Playstation Network isn't as good as X-Box Live.

I had this kind of question too, Jude (inside joke), and I'm getting a PS3, because I'll be able to do the stuff I stated above. All my "gamer" friends have a 360, but I don't really care xD. The exclusives for the PS3 seem better, in my opinion.

Haha yeah, that's what nearly everyone who owns a Wii has told me.

Hmm, I really just want a good gaming system. That's why I like the Xbox. It focuses on the games, much more so than anything else.

you should either get the wii or the xbox 360. i say the wii because you can download other nintendo games on it and play them whenever you want and it has other things like creating your own person downloading other miis and a lot of other things.
I say the xbox 360 cause it has a lot of good games and things to download and xbox live on a lot of games.
I wouldnt get the ps3 because that costs over $250 but you could probalby find a used one for that much

Ehh, I don't want a used console. I'd like to buy it brand new, so that if something goes wrong, I can return it easily.

I like this console thread better than the other ones. The others seem....unintelligent. It's because I see a lot of "360 OWNZ ITZ BETTER THAN PS3 AND WII!!!!!1

Do you have a top-of-the-line T.V. and Blu-Ray player that brings out the full potential of the PS3? If so, I'd buy the PS3. If not, I would go for the 360. On traditional t.v.s, the PS3 seems so much similar with the 360, and only is much better when placed with a top-of-the-line one.

360 has a much more varied game library than the PS3 right now, not to mention you would have a lot of console-specific games like Halo and Gears of War to enjoy. PS3 will have Final Fantasy XIII (a console-specific game) soon, but if you're not to much into RPG's then just forget it. The Wii, like everyone else has said, has many games, but few that are worth playing. These are the Wii's console-specific games, like SSBB and other popular Nintendo titles.

All in all, it's *360 cough* your choice *360* but if you want, *cough* you could go along with *360 cough* our choices and choose *360* any one you want.... *360*

Haha, I'm planning on either using my computer monitor (if I can figure it out, do you know anything about that?) or an old tv from the garage. Definitely not top of the line, either way xP

Yeah, that's one major thing that's swinging me towards the Xbox. I really want to be able to play Halo with my buddies.

I'd like some help with the display problem though. Do any of you guys know if/how I can connect the 360 to my computer monitor?

If I go with Xbox I could get either of these two bundles, for close to the same price.

I mean come on, Xbox Elite + wireless controller + two games + 120 gig hard drive, and a head set, all for $300. As opposed to the PS3, where you only get the console and controller for $300. Sure, the PS3 can play blue rays and DVDs, but it's supposed to be a gaming system, not home entertainment system. At least, that's how I look at it.

How about the tech specs guys? How does all the hard ware inside compare?

Bradcorvette's post was me xP

Anyway, Freak, that adapter is pretty expensive. Do you know of a cheaper alternative? I'm gonna be pulling every last cent I can get for the actual console, so I don't have any money for that, haha.

I can try to make the specs simple and short.

Processors (CPU):

PS3: 7 CELL Processors all clocked at 3.2GHz, total of 208 Gigaflops

360: 1 tri core Xenon Processor all three cores clocked at 3.2GHz, total of 100-150 Gigaflops (never seen any concrete numbers)

PS3 wins in processor power.

Graphics (GPU):

PS3: 1 RSX GPU clocked at 550MHz, computing speed 1.8 Teraflops

360: 1 GPU I don't know the name of clocked 500MHz (I think), computing speed 0.85-0.9 Teraflops

Not so sure who wins in graphics.

Overall performance in computing speed:

PS3: 2 Teraflops

360: 1 Teraflops

PS3 wins in computing speed.

Games:

You decide what games you like best.

Anyway I think they're pretty equal in having good games IMO
