Alright guys, let me start out by saying that I know there are a lot of threads asking what console is the best. However, I really don't know a lot about them (as I've never purchased a console, especially not during a time of such good competition). So, I'd like to tell you guys a bit about what I want, and then maybe from that you can tell me what option I should go for. This is a more personalized thread, while the rest are based on the best specs.
So the consoles I'm debating between are the "big three." Xbox 360 (arcade, pro, elite), PS3, or Wii. Really I've narrowed it down to either the Xbox 360 pro or elite (depends on the best deal I can find). However, I'd also like to learn a bit about the PS3. I doubt I'll go for the Wii, as I've heard it gets boring fast, but if there's anyone who feels other wise I'd love to hear your opinion.
The most important factor in my decision is price. I would like to not pay over $250 for the console itself, and am hoping that I can get a few accessories or games for $300. Maybe $310 or $320. I want this to be a purchase that I enjoy for a long time though, so consider the quality of the console as well as the price.
Another important factor is the quality and frequency of games released. One thing that I don't especially like about the Wii is that the games seem mediocre in quality, as opposed to the other consoles. Especially graphics wise. Not to mention, Halo isn't on the Wii or PS3. Most of my friends play a lot of Halo, so I'd like to be able to join them.
Which brings me to my next point, which system is best for playing with friends? This is a major reason I'm leaning towards the Xbox, all my friends play it. I'd like to be able to get on Live after school and talk to them. However, I'd still like to know how the other systems compare, just in case.
Those are my major decision points, but I'd like to know your person opinion as well. Which console do you enjoy the best? Does one cost more in accessories/other costs down the road?

Haha I've had my N64 since like '98 xD Awesome console. The N64 is definitely superior to all consoles up to the sixth generation. PS2, Game Cube, and original Xbox can't compare. The current generation is only better because of all the advances they've made. I wish more systems like the N64 were released though. It's a great machine.

Haha xD we could play some Halo 3. Assuming I get that game along with the 360, which I'm going to try to. Gonna see if my uncle will get it for me.
By the way guys, I decided on the 360 Elite. I found a deal on Walmart that is two games, plus the Elite (and all the accessories that come with it) for only $300. I've also solved my display dilemma. I'm going to buy a simple Microsoft VGA HD AV cord for $30 on Amazon, that way I'll be able to hook it up to my monitor. For sound, I just need a female to female couplet which costs $2 on Ebay xP.

How cool would an updated N64 be?! With some sort of online, achievements, improved hard ware, etc.
Xbox. Don't get a wii. I've got a wii and my friend has an xbox, we have 2 of the same games for it but the difference is, the Xbox version is about 10x as good, not because of the graphics, the game for the xbox was longer, more in depth, had more options and allowed more things PLUS online multiplayer where as the wii ver did not.
If you would have gone to Frys about a month ago they had a sale for 360 Elites for $299 and you can still play online with your friends for free you just can't have a gold membership so you'll just be able to play games not movies anymore but you can play dvd's on you 360
Playstation 3 is where it's at. Really comparing PS3 and XBOX360 gets you no where other than fanbois from either side saying the other is stupid...
PS3 offers a very solid background and little hardware defects from what I've been seeing (I know more people that have had system failures with the 360 than PS3). Both have online communities so you won't lose there.
I feel the PS3 by itself is the best bet because you don't have to pay for all the extras.
xbox you pay for the online only like 15$ a month but its so much better than the PS3 my brother & law has a ps3 ive played it a few times its horrid dont go for it stick with the 360 more games better games +online is much better
