ok my xbox 360 seems always a little sluggish so i unplugged everything and let sit for a while and cleaned out most of the dust i had it for over a year then it had the red ring.... then my friend came over and i showed him and he did something and no more red ring...... but before red ring it always seemed sluggish and not reading the disk. so i wrapped it in towels for an hour and ohmygosh it worked... it read the disk. the only bummers is when i want to play the xbox i have to do that every time.
Okay, first of all, Green said that the Red Ring of Death is from overheating. That is false. When the system overheats, 2 red rings appear. When that happens, that means you have it at a bad spot, try puting it in the open with nothing touching the Xbox or the "Power Box". Let it cool down for 30 minutes AT LEAST. I suggest 2 hours to make sure. When it is a full ring "4 bars" that means that not everything is properly connected. Just plug everything in (blow off the ends if neccessary) and turn the Xbox back on. No more red. However, when there are 3 bars, that means that your "Power Box" has a hardware problem and you have to replace it. But, for the Red Ring of Death, there is only 1 red bar. That means that there is a hardware problem for the Xbox 360 and you HAVE to send it to Microsoft to get it fixed, or just get another. And another thing, these "Special Editions" and "Elites" say that they can't get the Red Ring of Death. THAT IS A LIE. I first had a "Special Edition Halo Xbox 360", and then I got an "Xbox 360 Elite". They both got it. Now, I just have a normal Xbox 360 Arcade with my original Halo Edition hard-drive in it most of the time. I have yet to have ANY problems with it. If I missed any problems, let me know and I'll tell you how to fix 'em. I've had practically everything except for the 4 and 1 (1 was with a code on screen that wasn't E74).
all xbox's have problems or will get problems because you said elites and limited edition ones can and you have a arcade now. i have arcade and thats having problems for me.
cause i do i just wish some how they would fix it were you cant get it.
Get a PC, with hardware exceeding what the Xbox 360 could ever dream to do, and then get a whopping great fan on it. PCs don't suffer such stupid problems. Look after your console, get the vacuum cleaner and clean the fans just to keep it from over-heating.

I got mine out in the livingroom, where it's cold, with no fan... I try to only use it for a while then take a break to let it cool down anyways though.
