Elite Magical is right, Locoace. DOOM was first released to the computer as MS-DOS, where you had to input commands by keyboard to start the game.
It wasn't ported to the N64 until a few years later.
Also: An N64 version of DOOM? ROFL how difficult must THAT be??
Also2: Nintendo 64 is not an old-game system. My first game played was called Guardian Legend for the NES. It was created by only 6 people and was regarded as one of the best games in the NES. However, it never received any sequels so it lost its fame.
(no anything for the Xbox play station 1 or anything ahead of it don't count)
Also#3: The playstation 1 was made shortly before the N64. By your logic, you are playing a new console. You are also younger, therefore haven't had experience in playing REAL old games.

The Playstation was originally an extra for the Nintendo 64 that Nintendo asked Sony to create for them since the N64 only accepted cartridges. Later Sony stole the idea and made the add-on Sony's first proper console. So from my understanding the Playstation did come after the N64.

Unreal Tournament is a fucking awesome game nonetheless and so is Civilization 3. I played Doom pretty early on too so admittedly my memory is hazy:
In the first one you're on Mars. You get called in because a whole bunch of demonic alien things have been attacking scientists on other planets you fight your way through the two planets that the scientists were stationed on and then go to Hell. After killing the weird thing that looks like the inside of a Dalek you end up back on Earth which is completely destroyed.
In the second one I remember you've got to fight in some kind of space-ship area thing to save a whole bunch of humans but I didn't play I never completed Doom II as far as I remember.
