Well! What was originally going to be my own little poetry challenge has turned into a major competition! Please read every word in this opening post very carefully as everything I say must be adhered to. I don't know if you know this, but I am very strict with my rules and regulations...
The general point of this competition
A few of us users have come up with a list of 50 themes which can be found below. The aim of this competition is to write a poem or a piece of short prose for each theme, just for fun! There are no deadlines (as of yet) for the submissions because I don't want the pieces to be hurriedly written, so don't let that put you off participating. Everyone is welcome to participate. There's no pressure to submit all 50 pieces, take your time, have fun!
Please remember to follow the basic rules of the AMW. All work must be your own. No flaming, trolling, spamming, etc. Only provide critique on a user's piece if they have asked for it specifically. Keep general discussion on this thread to a minimum so as to remain at least a little bit on topic.
Submissions
A list of rules that (hopefully) cover everything you need to know about submissions. Read carefully. If you have any questions, contact me on my profile.
*You do not need to submit the pieces in order. You may start with whichever theme you like.
* Once you have written and revised a piece, submit it!
*You may submit more than one piece at a time, although submitting too many at once will seem as though you've rushed them.
*I will keep track of how many submissions each participant has entered on my profile, so take a look once in a while.
*Only short prose pieces are accepted. Nothing too longwinded please. I am going to include a word limit of 1,500 words.
*There is a certain structure to submitting a piece in order to keep the thread nice and tidy: - Your piece must have the theme name and number as the title in bold. You may also include your own title in brackets next to it. - You must state which form you have written your piece in, for example, haiku, short prose, sonnet, standard verse, etc.
Here is an example post;

A celebration for people. For the independent country America has become. Brings the family together. Are people are full of happiness and joy. But turkeys, on the other hand, ... Their not so happy, because... well... they became dead... go to the farm in the haven. Sorry turkeys ): ): ): ):
Sorry, but I don't think visual artwork counts. From the rules:
The aim of this competition is to write a poem or a piece of short prose for each theme, just for fun!
Now then, a poem from me
11. New School
a new buiding, I must learn getting lost around e'ry turn no around to ask for help they're all strangers, I yelp as I see the groups around me
Time for lunch, what a horrible time all alone, no one to sit with and pass the time but someone walks up, she sits with me We get to talk, to become friends, I can see I may just survive here after all.
Great job at trying theme 50, guys. I'm going to have to update my profile soon, aren't I. I deleted the list of contestants (because it's not even a competition..) but I'll stick it back up later.
Cristalfox, please remember to cite the theme name and number before you post your piece.
Visual art is acceptable only if a handful or more of words accompanies it (such as Cenere's works earlier).
Azure troughs and crests of the ocean swell. For these are now the subject of my speech. They creep, ever so slowly, towards the beach. Not that the sea could ever be halted. But I thought that it might be wise to tell. Before these waves crash against the beach's shore. And with the water, fear envelops all. Drownt in panic as water, watch, enthralled As sea swallows land, who is so faulted As to let the waves just drag them away Without helping, nor feeling some slight sway As they flail in the water, but then stop And their eyes glaze over, then their arms drop Then sink in the water, always to stay It is not my place to tell such a thing But it's best that you know the tide is rising.
Fun Fact: For the poem type, I just googled "types of poetry" then shut my eyes and chose one at random. The canzone is rather like the sonnet, but it's less restrictive and you can switch things up more. I rather enjoyed writing this.
Hm, I made this poem and put it into my writing thread. I'll tweak it a tad and post it here
8. Falling Into the Abyss (Eternal Pain)
Eternal dark is all I see. Oh how much do I want to be Free, happy and to see the light. Instead all I get is a painful bite.
The glass shatters And the Dark batters. Have I lost all hope? No, the hope will not shatter. It will prevail and clear the dark; Shadows vanish and the cold will scatter.
Nothing can stop me as it Seems to be getting better now. Oh how do I long for the light! Alas, be it my insanity, Or is the Dark bright?
So close, yet so far, My life is almost par. The Dark shall be nothing More than shards. Shards of pain and shards of Hell. Shall lock the shards behind prison bars. For I have wont this cruel game of cards! The Light is now mine; I hear the Bell.
But wait! It is the dark I hate; It is mercilessly dragging me down! I am being dragged down and I frown. I yell for help, yet no one is there. I don't know how much more I can bear.
I now begin to cry; For my Savior did not follow through, And I wave a painful good-bye To the world I will never know. It was so close, but in the end, I'm in eternal pain.
The present exists under the touch of paper and pen, The past is but a hollowed paper with dried ink, laying dead in different shapes and forms filled with meaning. I fear that not many books are written with the same faithfull instrument, each instrument behaves differently in the hands of that who wields it, each bares its own lifetime and traits, I'm affraid the paper is just as important, for within this bond so does the paper come in different shades, but over-all is it not the meaning that is essential, the best instruments are worthless, without the artist's restless mind to wield them in harmony. The over-all meaning is essential but, regardless of the final work's popularity, if and only if it's written by heart, shall it posses traits of the soul, it shall forever contain a part of the creator, each time the final work is read, a new form of life claims existence, the meanings join in dance with the reader, and in this dance and it's consequences the creator is present, ever hopeing to find itself threw some form in another meaningfull final work.
Wave and glitter, shimmering like leaves, only of life, precious from man, never tainted, bliss gave not, blessing from none, mysterious is ways, deep and high, like tides and comet, If only to be loved, precious and gift, now given to man, fly higher than comet, so blood stay bound, dreams and wishes, if only were, shimmer and dance, like unspoken child, if only minds labor, for wave of glitter, still Sea of Diamonds.
When you get old, you can't run, play sport or play. when you get old some people turn bald. When you get old, you can't kick, punch or scald. Your life gets older, older and balder, so there's no chance of walking in faith and victory of your age. When you get old, you turn 100. maybe 101, 102, or even 103. When you get old, break something bold. A world record! Beat a record of 113 years old, which is very old and bold. So when you get old, your old and bald, which your age is high as a birds nest.
I thought of this poem in my head and I mean like, Bold and Bald???????? Bold as ...hard..., well, you know what I mean. And bald. No hair.
