What do you think are our most powerful emotions?

Personally, I think Love and Fear are the most powerful of all emotions. They make you blind, irrational, and are terrifying if abused.

Quote time~~

"Fear is what makes you run and hide; Love is what makes you stay and die."

-Whoever came up with it first. No idea, so I'll put me, because Google didn't tell me it has been said before.

The most powerful? I would say anger/hate. You can control love better than you can control hate.

Most powerful? I don't think there is such a thing. It depends on the person that is feeling it. They could be more prone to lash out violently or they would probably become jealous before anger.

i dont think that anger is that powerfull... i mean it can blind you but this is an emotion that you can control easily if you want to. for example im almost never angry and saddness comes to me instead of anger.

anger is blinding, but so is pride, fear, love, and hate. whats rare is someone who is not blinded by any emotions.

A blind man!

Have you watched the episode in Fairy oddparents where Timmy lost his emotions? Common sense is portrayed there as an emotion. Is it?

ive seen it. i dont think that sense is an emotion. you "feel" emotions but you "think" about sense.

Common sense is more instinctual than emotional - although some would say it's a mental response to an external stimuli - the same as emotions so meh.

I think that fear is the strongest emotion.
Fear leads to long-term as well as immediate changes. The behavior which led to the fearful event may be inhibited. Environmental features associated with the event may become aversive, as in phobias and post traumatic stress disorder.
If the threats continues to be anticipated for long periods without the danger actually materializing, sustained anxiety and chronic stress can cause physical wear and tear, psychological passivity, and depression.

Envy. Envy has been the cause of many, if not most, of the world's major problems and/or conflicts. If you're religious, it's even worse.

Envy inevitably comes from love though doesn't it? Your love of some things, and perhaps hate of another, causes you to envy what someone else has.

I change my mind either love or envy (which derives from anger) can be the most powerful. They both are powerful and can lead to things you wouldn't imagine doing in other circumstances. I honestly don't know which one is the most powerful

Biologically I'm not sure if love or hate came first, or if it's even possible to determine that. But would it be possible to postulate that all emotions derive from love? Hate being the antagonist to love, the way cold is the antagonist to heat; it only exists because we have a view of the opposite. If so then anger, jealousy, envy, pride, etc. could all be said to have originated from love?
