What do you think are our most powerful emotions?

Personally, I think Love and Fear are the most powerful of all emotions. They make you blind, irrational, and are terrifying if abused.

Quote time~~

"Fear is what makes you run and hide; Love is what makes you stay and die."

-Whoever came up with it first. No idea, so I'll put me, because Google didn't tell me it has been said before.

Apathy can be every bit as dangerous as emotion because while it eliminates purely negative emotions such as hatred it also removes compassion and love, still leaving the core of kill or be killed instinct that would make us hostile creatures caring only for ourselves. No emotion would include a lack of curiosity, which is what drives humans to explore new areas of morality as well as technology. Without curiosity we would sit stangnant and no longer continue moving forward.

If so then anger, jealousy, envy, pride, etc. could all be said to have originated from love?

Possibly. It depends on how you look at it. You see if you look at Robert Plutchik wheel of emotion (where you can find here)you can see that the opposite of anger is not joy, love, or sadness. It is fear. Which made me think of what love's opposite was, until I found out love was not listed on the wheel. So what is the opposite of love then?

I would suggest it to be hate (which I also don't see on the wheel) simply from my experiences and my, limited, knowledge of human emotions. Where's more the philosopher when you need him.

Envy inevitably comes from love though doesn't it? Your love of some things, and perhaps hate of another, causes you to envy what someone else has.

I would say that envy stems from want, not love. And the hate stems from the envy. So emotions come from want, not from love.

To want something don't you first need to have affection or need for it? And isn't it normal to love something that you have affection for or need to live? Therefore doesn't want come from love?

Not really affection. Maybe just a need. And want is less like love and more like lust.

i said love hapiness and saddnes because you can draw strength from those. love always cause hapiness or sadness, it depends on the situation. hatred and anger make you weak and might make you lose yourself. some people here said that the emotions that can blind you are the strongest but i believe that those are actually the weakest. it depends on what you mean when you talk about strength. hatred and anger are strong if you think about emotions that can destroy you but love hapiness and sadness are strong if you think about emotions that can help you. also those emotions are the ones youd like to feel the most and the porpose of life to me is to enjoy them. life filled with hatred and anger are empty and meaningless. (that was all my opnion though)

i'd say fear. love and hate both seem logical, but i personally think that love and hate and results of those feelings are for the most part predictable in a general sense, and they can be bent (by that i meant something can deter one from loving something if they see it in a new light, same or hate) but when somebody gets scared, it's nearly impossible to control, entirely unpredictable, and can be dangerous. i hate to go nerd on all you, and as cheesy as it sounds, yoda was right

anger, fear, and love.
All three can compel you to make irrational, bad, or just plain stupid things.
