Only gun that would be realistic would be a smaller gauge Shotgun, AR-15 or any derviation therof, or a melee weapon like a sword, axe, etc. Or maby a 9mm handgun, but there not so useful against Zeds.
Assuming that everyone here is my age, you guys can't handle a real-deal shottie. I've shot some of the higher gauges, and they freaking hurt. A lot. Smaller gauges aren't too bad, so I could see myself using it with ease. Also, ammo is somewhat plentiful.
AR-15s, AR-10s, or AR-5s are good; there the civillian version of the M16, and fire the same caliber. Assuming you scavenge off of dead military, or military supplies, these are good choices. There accurate, powerful, and have a relatively light recoil.
Melee weapons are somewhat good. There quite, and don't run out of ammo, and are really good, 'cept for one part: Your really, really, uncomfortably close to the zombie. Unless you have epic ninja skills, and can throw swords or something, I'd only use one as a last resort.
And on the minigun? Please, its so unrealistic that its not even funny. And to carry it around, you'd be carrying the 20lb gun, a crap load of ammo, plus 10lbs of batteries just to power the dang thing. On top of that, I would probaly be carrying about 60lbs of supplies that I would need (first aid, food, etc). So a minigun is just out of the question, even if I could get my hands on one. Which is why the AR-15 is probaly your best choice.
