So I recently just started going into astronomy, and I was wondering whether you guys believe that the universe was open, closed or flat?

I like to think of the universe as closed, but I'm still wondering what happens if you stick your hand out of the "end" of the universe. Either way, the universe is going to hit a apocalyptic end D:

The red lines indicate straight light paths to us from opposite sides of a typical hot spot in the CMB, as would be the case in a "flat" universe; the gray lines indicate corresponding curved light paths as they would appear in a universe with "negative curvature".

Mage's big neon picture hurt my eyes, but I'm alright... In my opinion, the universe is open and never-ending. It expands in all directions endlessly.

Personally, I believe in the flat universe, Big Freeze standpoint. Besides the fact that science supports this, it just seems logical(considering you believe in black matter).

I think personally there is no way to tell. Our human perspective of physical space is very limited. The universe may SEEM infinte because that kind of distance is hard for us to fathom. It well be that the universe does, indeed have an end. However the idea of an infinite amount of anything is very hard to grasp as well. The big bang or creation (both essential the same thing) could both happen nicely in a universe that has an end. BUT both could also happen nicely in an infinite universe. If forced to pick I would say finite, because I am unsure if humans will ever know (unless I have memories of my life in heaven and ask God, but that isn't going to be for a while I think ^^.

I definitely think it's open and expanding. I also like to think that there are parallel universes

Since the universe is expanding at a rate faster than the speed of light, we will never be able to see the edge of the universe unless we can somehow go faster than the speed of light. That means we will never know. I think it's Some sort of unknown shape that allows you to go to the end of one side and go to the edge of the opposite...or maybe there is a tear that eats itself...
Ironically, this kind of reminds me of when people thought the world was flat.

I beleive that the universe is open and ever expanding. Although there are many theories about it, i believe we will never truly discover everything the universe has in it or what exactly it is.

When I try to think about how they say God created the universe and then you factor the Big Bang it really makes my head hurt.

it is impossible to go the speed of light, thanks to the magic of special relativity the closer you get to the speed of light the more the speed of light "speeds up" or the more you slow down

ex.
a train has been built around the earth and is moving at 99.9_% the speed of light time inside the train will slow down. you go inside the train and throw a ball down a car, the ball will move so slow it will appear not to move, the train is slowed to 80% the speed of light and you throw the ball, it will move faster, but will still appear to be in slow motion

I think that if you stuck your hand out of the universe it would cease to exist...or perhaps feel funny.
Basically the universe was made in a void, but the universe is only a "bubble" of space, rock, people, Chuck Norris etc.
so outside there is NOTHING(a void). so if you stuck your hand out it would be in nothing, therefore it wouldnt be nothing. So maybe it would turn into nothing, or maybe it would shrivel from lack of oxygen.
